I liked the exploration of AI, corporations making money of people's grief and where should the limits lay, but the story in general was quite boring until the very end which was too late. Also, making Davin Tennant the face of the book while he only speaks a few sentences was a little assholish. The main narrator was alright.

Update after reread: 

Alright, I had a feeling I didn't give this book a fair chance, so I started it right away after finishing it for the first time. I've read it more carefully, actually liked it more, and upped my rating. This time around, I could grasp the division of writer's mind much better and found it interesting.

I honestly can't believe this was published AND translated. I had a feeling I'm watching shallow 90s romantic comedy, in the worst way possible. It was clear right from the title what will happen, characters were horrible, no character development, plot non-existant, short and choppy chapters, 95% of the book are dialogues.  Nothing made sense. Hated it.

This was super nice and cozy, I'm glad I listened to it. I liked the combination of classic epic fantasy battle with cozy aspect of baking. The characters are very lovable. I didn't like that the author took some obvious elements of other fantasy stories, but it worked ok here. The narrator has maybe a little too mature voice for the MC.

Not much new information was shared (after all, this is 1938 manuscript published in 2011) but it was interesting to see how world still has the same problems and I'm intrigued by the solutions Hill offered. Also, I just love prosaic style of old school books, they're so proper and dramatic.

Considering I had this book on my bookshelf for more than a decade and DNFed it more than once, I was shocked how much I liked it when I finally finished it. This time I allowed myself to see it for what it is, consume it slowly and it was amazing. Theme of individual influence on community is written masterfully here. I absolutely refuse to believe those characters aren't real. Heartbreaking story.

Loved the premise, it started really interesting, but soon I lost all of that interest. I had a feeling it kept going on and on and on, with a lot of fluff, repetition and unnecessary scenes. In the end I just didn't cared about anyone anymore. I think this story would work much better as novella.  The ending was also not my cup of tea, it was too clean. King didn't break my heart even once in this story and that's just weird. 

But banger quote: "He is two man - he has ALWAYS been two man. That's what any man or woman who makes believe for a living must be. The one who exists in the normal world...and the one who creates worlds. They are two. Always at least two."

The story required a little suspending of disbelief and it was pretty predictable, but I kinda enjoyed it. The narrator has crazy deep voice, I liked that.

Surprisingly beautiful. Simple and direct writing, yet I sobbed like there's no tomorrow. How honourable is to be loved by a cat.

I can’t remember the last time I felt so conflicted about how to rate a book after finishing it. On one hand, the concept is undeniably intriguing, original, and refreshingly unique—Agatha Christie meets time travel and body-jumping? Count me in! But on the other hand, the execution felt exhausting. The mystery was too drawn out, and I found myself more frustrated than intrigued by the need to get to the end just to understand what was going on. The journey itself wasn't fun at all.

I didn’t care much for any of the characters, and the MC's frequent shifts into new bodies weren’t accompanied by any real depth in character development—just a flat statement of which host he was in, without that change being reflected in behavior or tone. A lot of "telling" rather than "showing."

The resolution of the Evelyn Hardcastle mystery was, tbh, disappointing. Her motivations made little sense and seemed to come out of nowhere, making the payoff feel unearned and clumsily handled. However, the unraveling of the MC’s own story—and the explanation behind the body-hopping concept—was far more compelling. I appreciated the deeper message that it’s never too late to change, and that part left a much better impression.

Despite all the flaws, I wouldn’t call this a bad debut. If you’re able to overlook the shortcomings, this is a creative and worthwhile read. Not perfect, but memorable
