I hate when book disappoints me this much. It began great, I loved the writing, amazing pace, I truly felt the emotions on the page. And then at one point it all started to fall apart until it crashed and burned completely. Too much of this story relies on characters doing stupid decisions, unbelievable coincidences, ridiculous plot-twists I was praying wouldn't happen. Motivations made no sense, I don't think trauma works like that. It will kill your time for sure, but prepare to suspend a lot of disbelief to not get annoyed out of your mind.

I loved the rise of political intrigue in the "Amber Universe" and the cliffhanger ending, but if one more plot point happens because Oberon fucked someone, I'm probably gonna scream.

Alright, I still like Merlin more than Corwin, but to be honest I had no idea what was happening in this book 80% of the time.

I liked how we got a bunch of new characters and a great mystery for the ending (if it really is the last one). It was such a fun ride, I'm glad I stuck with it 'till the end. It's not objectively 5 stars, but I grew close with this story, so I want to show my appreciation. Predictable feel good ending, but it was expected. The narrator did a great job throughout the whole series.

The first book in a long long time I started to reread as soon as I finished it for the first time. And it was amazing, again.

Not sure what to think. I really liked the beginning of Merlin's story, I liked him as a character more than Corwin. I was genuinely interested in the story again. Then the last few chapters felt like much of the same, traveling through Shadow still boring and I hated the end. Almost exactly the same like the first book of this series. Like father, like son I guess.
adventurous slow-paced

Corwin's trips through Shadows were my least favorite part of the books, I barely skimmed them. Well, how about the whole book of only that? I almost died of boredom. The ending was interesting, but it didn't fix the rest of the book.

Family drama on steroids, and I'm here for it. Parts when MC travels through Shadows are too long, boring, and unnecessary.
adventurous medium-paced

This one had interesting whodunnit vibe and I like that we finally met brothers and sister a little bit better. Endings are always inviting to start the sequel right away!

I'm starting to really enjoy this story. The second part is more exciting, fast-paced with a lot of action. The magical world makes more sense now, and Corwin’s many brothers are becoming interesting and unique characters. Galen was a great addition. I also liked that the storyline with Eric ended.
