this was not for me. I‘m not American, nor do i particularly care about rural America if i am honest. So most of this book felt unrealistic and unreasonable. Still it contains important representation of trans, disfigured and disabled people which is important. Also enjoyed the political stance this book took even though the writing  was a little afraid to be misunderstood. But as someone who is neither American nor a teenager - take my opinion with a grain of salt. My fave AJW book stays The Spirit Bears Its Teeth because I love fantasy elements and the one element in this book, did not catch me. 

i could follow along quiet well for a nonfiction book. I enjoyed the historical complexity of trans misogyny and how the view of being transgender has changed. Definitely learned new facts and would recommend this book to every trans person - to get an unfiltered view into the lives of our trans sisters.

Great small book for people who start discovering what gender means to them and to what extend gender (binary) influences the world. Feels like a good starting point to discover more and go deeper.

I love the way this duology is written. Enjoyable love story and finally a man who is kind! Really liked the deeper insights into the world building in the second book even though for me it could have dove into it even deeper. But this is not high fantasy - so I‘m content.
