🌶️🌶️🌶️

This was such a fun and spicy twist on Beauty and the Beast! I loved the bodyguard trope and that the love interest was actually 30. The romance was steamy, and the tension between Daemon and Alix really worked. It was also a nice palette cleanser between heavier reads.

That said, the pacing dragged a bit in places, and I definitely wanted more world-building to fully sink into the fantasy setting. Still, it was an enjoyable and easy read.

"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” - Søren Kierkegaard

The Wishing Game is a delightful and heartfelt read, blending the whimsy of a children’s story with the emotional depth of real-life struggles. Think of it as an adult version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory—but instead of candy, it’s all about books.

At its core, the story follows Lucy, whose greatest wish is to adopt a young boy named Christopher. As she navigates a mysterious competition, she’s also forced to confront her fears and fight for the future she longs for. There’s a gentle romantic subplot, but the heart of the novel lies in Lucy’s journey and emotional growth.

This is a simple yet moving read, perfect for anyone looking for a cozy, emotional escape with a touch of magic. I highly recommend it.

*Re-read*

This is still a solid 5-star read for me! It's charming, funny, and I absolutely adore the email/pen-pal romance.
