Slash is a book that immediately called to me. As a lover of all things slasher-y it was evident this book was written for me! I fell in love with Shea's writing in Creature and he has risen an author who is high on my list of faves. With all of that said, I knew I was in for a treat with Slash.
We get death and mystery right from the start. An unusual twist of events for a surviving final girl leads us down a bloodsoaked path. Fans of gore will revel in Slash! We get it all with this one... and the deaths are so inventive and brutal. I could watch it all unfolding as if it were on a screen in front of me. Shea has a way with descriptions that does this for the reader.
A lot of times I can totally pinpoint the killer... but not with this one! This book is definitely recommended for fans of slashers and massacre horror! 4 stars!

A coming-of-age slasher story set at a summer camp?! Yes, please! All day, every day! Those components form one of my favorite sub-genres in horror and I will gladly read books like this all the time. Each time the killer claimed another victim, I could visualize it as if it were a movie. I could see the dread on the victim's face, hear the music as it reaches its crescendo, and could put myself in the position to see JUST a little bit of who the killer is without being totally in the know.
I enjoyed all the back-and-forth camper banter that makes these stories so fun as well as getting to know each of the characters throughout the story.
If you like 80s gory slashers then you will love this book! It's like Heavyweights meets Friday the 13th and that is a great combination if you ask me! It has all the things you need! 4 stars!

Yikes. I am glad this wasn't my first SJ book. If it had been I doubt I would have read anything else. So many people enjoy this but it just didn't work for me. I mean sure I love how Merricat is totally out there and bizarre, but that's about it. I feel like nothing really happened and it was pretty predictable as well. I'm pretty bummed I didn't love this one or really even like it at all. Nothing really eerie or haunting. The mystery wasn't even mysterious enough. Just an overall feeling of "Meh, next." with this one.
Harry Potter is just one of those book series that changes lives. I know it did for me. This is my first time re-reading in years and I can't believe it, but I love it even more than the first couple of times. I hope that each time I re-read this book and others in the series that my nostalgia will trigger and I will gain an even deeper appreciation for the story, the lessons, and the magic. I find that any time I am in any type of slump that I can reach out to these books and feel better and recharged. 5 easy stars!!
What a ride! Slashers will always be my favorite sub-genre of horror... and I love that more author have been tackling this lately. I think it is difficult to put the same cheese, fear, and gore into a book sometimes that a movie with bad actors can so easily do. But McDonough slams it out with this bloody slasher that will have any fan excited! I loved the characters, the witty conversations, the gory deaths, etc. I really liked the chapters where we got to see from the eyes of the killer. It added some intrigue and mystery and it was a nice and quick little break from death to death.
Highly recommended and this is the perfect fall read for fans of horror and slashers! 4 stars!
