That was a wild ride!
A very visual narrative that made me flinch a couple of times. Loved all the images it conjured in my mind and I will for sure read more of Ottessa Moshfegh in the future.

New favourite author alert? (hope so 🤞)

Not my favourite thing I've ever read, but it conjured some gruesome images in my mind 👌

WHAT A DELIGHT!

The prose was amazing, probably my favourite aspect of this whole book, the characters were so intriguing, I was glued to the pages from chapter 1. Really really enjoyed this, will definitely keep the author in my radar.

This book was exactly what I hoping it would be and at the same time it was also so much more.

It completely sucked me in and I loved every page.

Would reread again, only for the pleasure of annotating it!

This was my first time diving into short stories and I'm pretty pleased with this book. I was afraid I wasn't gonna relate to the characters or the stories much, but it was a very intriguing collection.

The rating is a bit on the "low" side, cause not all the stories resonated with me as much as I hoped they would, but I would definitely explore more of Enríquez's work.

I feel like I didn't enjoy this as much as I hoped, while simultaneously it did deliver for me. The last chapter was definitely the most touching and heartfelt part of the book.

I feel like I didn't have enough time to get to know Amelia before her mother's death or even her mother as a person. Maybe that was intentional to make the book resonate with everyone, so the mum wasn't given a very discernible personality, but this didn't help me connect with the characters & the situation as much as I would want.

Also the sex related things here were a bit triggering for me, but I do understand this is entirely personal.

Tbh, I think this book had every potential for me to love it, but somehow that didn't happen. I was thrown into it, there was so much information even from the first chapter that I had to go back and keep rereading paragraphs to make sure I was understanding fully what I was reading.

Even though I've really enjoyed Novik's other work, this one was a difficult one for me, mostly because I didn't feel connected to our main girl and the whole "I'm a pariah" situation was a bit more on the telling side instead of on the showing.

Another thing that kinda baffled me was how the relationship between her and Orion evolved cause I really don't know how we ended up with the whole "dating" scene.

Overall this book left me confused at best.

A difficult but poignant read. Boundless admiration for Jennette McCurdy and I will keep a close eye to anything she puts out next, be it a book or a movie.

**No rating cause I don't rate memoirs.

I was very intrigued by the premise of this book and I ended up enjoying it, just not as much as I had hoped.

It was very atmospheric and I could picture it becoming a movie easily, the descriptions of the Welsh countryside and the villagers, everything enhanced the ambience and the eerie feeling this book aimed to achieve.

Didn't really find it scary tbh, not something complaining about, cause I really don't do horror 😅 The reveal at the end was nice, though didn't catch me by surprise and not because I had guessed it myself. I don't know what it is, but it felt like the less we knew (the beginning of the book for example) was more interesting to me somehow.
