The Sundown Motel was my introduction to Simone St. James and I promptly placed holds for the rest of her books at my library (shout out to Libby).

This book had me HOOKED from the get go- utterly invested in both Viv and Carly and what in the world was going on with this godforsaken motel!

This is another read that I would recommend for book readers with anxiety- just enough spook to entertain, but never so stressful that you have to put the book down. For some people that may be a problem, but for me it makes for the perfect ghost story.

4.5 stars rounded up! This gave me the heebie-jeebies a few times- enough so that I had to pause and go so something else that involved ALL of the lights being on.

I’ll be real- I HATED that the main character’s nickname is Mouse. Absolutely hated it and it didn’t fit her character at all so that does play a part in not quite being five stars. The other part is simply that the ending was pretty quick.

Spoiler alert- the dog lives! I really loved how the relationship between the main character and her dog was written.
