This book was such a quick read and a refresher specially after reading a huge fantasy book.
I really connected with Meddy and her family (immigrant things✌️)
I don’t read a lot of first person books but I think this one works really well
I do think that the problem was resolved fairly quickly but overall I liked it.

The first part was really slow given it was mostly world building and setting up the plot. I’m glad I tabbed the book because it was nice to be able to go back and review plot points and characters. After that though, the plot flowed beautifully and was always filled with action.
The way the four “storytellers” as Samantha Shannon calls them, all intertwine and bring the plot together was beautifully done. The characters are complex, heroes and villains alike have their flaws and good qualities. The exploration of religion and history in this world was extremely intriguing and makes us wonder about the flaws in our own world.
The strong female characters, poc, and lgbtq+ representation was done quite well and I’m glad said characters and relationships are seen as the normal and not as “strange and other”
I’m manifesting this book adapted into a film because I need it in my life.
I hate Niclays but when he speaks of Jannart my heart melts
I fell in love with Kit and he was taken 2 pages after I decided he was my favorite😭

Okay the book was hyped as a gossip girl/pretty little liars type of book and yes it was but also there was so much more. The plot is very heavily intertwined with discussion of racism and white supremacy. Read trigger warnings!!
finding out that the music Taylor was involved hurt so bad, so did belle and Terell but I had seen Chiamaka and Devon get backstabbed so much I wasn’t even phased

The character arcs given to these characters were amazing and I’m glad their trauma was addressed. Nikolai, Zoya, and Genya supremacy!
But Bardugo dear, stop hurting your readers like that (chapter 20).
