Read in English. This is a very interesting comic book. First, the art is amazing, I can really explain why, but the style just please me a lot and I find it refreshing/original. Then the story, a cruel family story, nothing that stand out when you present it this way, and like the illustrations, I can really explain why, but there is something in the story, the character are deep, way deeper then what we expect from a comic book, and I loved it! With the ending, my guest is there will be more. And I hope to read them! Original, deep, creative, a very good one!

Trop simpliste à mon goût. Je n'ai pas aimé le style d'écriture avec tous les formes narratives (e-mail, journal personnel, messages textes, etc.) et l'humour ne passait pas vraiment pour moi. Le manque d'action et d'aventure, on est beaucoup dans le quotidien normal d'un enfant, aégalement diminué mon intérêt. Bref, je n'ai pas aimé, ce n'était pas pour moi!

Deuxième fois que je lis ce jeune auteur et bien que le style soit trop enfantin pour moi et pas dans mes goûts, je dois avouer qu'il sait écrire et qu'il produit quelque chose d'intéressant. Personnellement je n'ai pas aimé le mélange de style entre le côté horreur (créatures fantastiques et autres) et le ton plutôt léger, limite humoristique, dans lequel l'histoire est racontée. Tout de même bien écrit, un style qui plairait certainement à un certaine clientèle et une histoire intéressante, encor eune fois peut-être pour un public plus jeune. Certains passages, surtout le côté «tendre» de certaines créatures, mon rappelé Amos Daragon (avec ces personnages à la base «méchant», mais approché avec un humanime, la gorgone, l'ours-garou, la prêtresse vodoo, etc. (désolé pour ces pseudonyme, je n'ai aucune mémoire pour les noms)). Bref, pour mon appréciation personnel j'aurais donné 2/5, mais c'est un livre qui ne mérite pas moins de 3/5, alors c'est ce que je lui donne!

Je n'ai pas aimé ces deux nouvelles d'un auteur pourtant relativement reconnu pour son oeuvre. Est-ce le format de la nouvelle? Certains auteurs de romans écrivent de bien piètres nouvelles et certains auteurs d'excellentes nouvelles de bien mauvais roman. Être bon dans un ne garantie pas le succès dans l'autre. Ceci étant dit, je relierai probablement un roman de cet auteur pour valider, par contre ce petit recueil, manquait d'aventures. Le focus semblait sur les personnages et leur univers, mais il se passait trop peu de choses pour que cela soit intéressant. Deuxième point, je n'ai pas aimé «l'appropriation», dans la première nouvelle, de l’univers de Tolkien, appropriation libre qui ne rend ni hommage no justice à l'oeuvre original et à son auteur. Il faut quand même une certaine confiance en soit pour s'approprier certains personnages et une partie de cet univers grandiose... Bref, un échec selon moi!

Où cet auteur voulait-il aller... aucune idée. Ce roman semble aboutir nul part. L'écriture est correcte et il y a même une certain ambiance angoissante au début qui était bien menée, mais rapidement des longueurs s'installent, on tourne en rond et la fin... terriblement mauvaise. Je donne deux étoiles pour l'ambiance du début, mais honnêtement... j'ignore quel était le but de ce roman (tout en lien avec le diabète... pourquoi?). Je ne recommande pas!

First one in a new series so we'll see how it goes, let's give it a chance, but so far so good. Is it a reboot of Wolverine, not sure... It's intriguing! It have potential, just hope they don't mess it up!

Drôle de genre littéraire. Sorte de recueil de petits monologues. Le rythme est bon, l'écriture passe bien, mais au final le manque de profondeur (et évidemment le mnauqe de trame narrative, bien que cela ne semblait pa sêtre le but ici...) fait très mal. Des fragments de paroles isolés dont on ne retire malheureusement pas grand chose. Content d'avoir eaasyé, je salue l'originalité, mais je n'ai pas aimé!

2,5/5. Je m'obstine à lire cet auteur avec qui malheureusement j'ai connu trop peu de succès jusqu'à maintenant. Encore une fois, une plume intéressante, une histoire qui l'est aussi, mais ce qui blesse c'est l'inégalité entre le ton (l'écriture) et le contenu (l'histoire). L'écriture demeure assez simple, plutôt jeunesse, mais l'histoire est, à mon humble avis, un peu trop complexe (et certains sujets font moins jeunesse également) pour cette tranche d'âge de lecteur. On est entre deux styles, entre deux âges et cela m'a perdu (dans mon intérêt) en tant que lecteur. Vaut le coup d'oeil, peut-être que le style vous plaira, mais je ne vois pas à quelle tranche d'âge ni à quel genre de lecteur je le recommanderais...

A book that present what you can find on a beach, pages to annotate what you found, activities/games to do while at the beach, and other stuff related once again to the... beach! Very simple, maybe too much, you can easily come up with half the contents of the book just by yourself if you think for 5 minutes. But it's still a decent kid «journal» to prepare and accompanied (so not sure about that choice of word...) him for first time at the beach.

There are a lot of things to say about this book and honestly I’m not so sure where to start. First of all this book was proposed to me as a Mystery/Crime genre which is isn’t in any possible way. There is a crime, two actually, at the beginning and then… we just don’t hear from it anymore until the last third of the book, and it isn’t that important in the story. So a crime yes, a mystery no and nothing in term of police work or investigation.
When you put the bad genres behind you, the book have some qualities. It’s written well enough, with good fluidity and super easy to read. There is some French expression in there, which was alright for me because my first language is French, but for English reader it could have been a good idea to had some bottom pages notes to help them understand, but I really like those French expression, I find they had a little something. There is also a intrusion in the theatre world, a world we don’t see that often in literature and even if I don’t know how good it was put in place, since it’s a world I don’t know much about, this add, again, a little plus value to the story. There were some cultural references to theatre, but also to music and poetry, I love when an author does put references in his works to make the reader discover others works or art from his reading. The main character is also very interesting. We follow her from her early age and as far as advanced adulthood (don’t want to be too specific for not spoiled anything…). This character is very well developed, deep though by moment, some less glorious, but it’s a character that I will certainly remember for some time and that is an achievement in itself by any author to make those fictional characters real enough that you get emotional close to them and remember them after closing the book. That character development may be the strongest point of it all! There is also a lot of subject cover through the story, art, love, homosexuality, suicide, drugs use, anxiety (a bit), and more.
I told you that the genre was not was I expected, it’s in fact a LGTQIA romance novel (mostly, and some more literature part with the development of Mary has a person), with some emphasis on lesbian sexes scenes which by the way (not that I know a lot about) seem really unrealistic in the way they started (God those women get into it fast!!), and unfortunately those scenes didn’t bring anything good or relevant to the story. There were also a lot of importance add to clothing, apartment, money… those thing we often find in romance. That definitely wasn’t the best part of it.

It’s hard for me to rate/review this book. If I had know it was a romance and not a mystery/crime, I would never I’ve read it, I don’t read romance, If you ask me to rate this book has a mystery I would give it 1/5 start because it isn’t one. But if you ask me to review it has a book, forget about the genre and everything, I think it deserve a fair 3/5. The writing, the settings, the characters (not that original and unique, but very well put in place and developed) are really well done. The basis was there, just exchange those romance parts and switch them with mysteries/crime elements and it could have reach 4 out of 5.

It may have try to cover too much ground, too much genre, and it also may have used a bit more editing to be a really good book. But depending on your interest and favorite genre, this could, or not, be worth looking at!
