I had never read, or at least I don't remember reading, this story of Lovecraft, so it's harder to judge the adaptation, but it felt a bit confusing at time, maybe too many things were cut, to make it shorter, I like the art and the weird exploration of dream and strange place, so we're not sure if that a dream or reality, but it just felt like something was missing to make it whole.
4,5/5. We get another side of the story or of the universe in this one. We are on the villains side and we get the chance to go deeper in some of those characters. I thought we might get even deeper, but we get a good background anyway, a bit more for two of them. There is a lot of action too. It was a different volume, fun, original and so it was good. I was expecting a bit more, but maybe my expectation were just too high...
4,5/5. Nice little discovery here! A book and an author I knew nothing about and definitely something that will stay with me and an author I will reread for sure. A very well written, the English translation was really good, slow pace, emotional, reflexive. What is a family? The author take us on a journey, a small one, the book is only 150 pages long, where we think about family, love, human relationship and it provides me a bunch of nice quotes that I wrote down in my notebook. Sure it's light and it doesn't really bring anything new, but it's the own personal way that the author write and bring the subject that makes the book relevant and that's also what's the difference between an author and a good author!
What a nice illustration style. Kind of minimalist, line that blurred themselves into the background, almost foggy, I know I'm terrible at describing at, but trust me there were original and beautiful. Don't even trust me, go see for yourself, because this book was good. Simple, but a nice story with great arts. And sometimes this is just enough to make a good book!
Not sure what was the purpose of the author. I get the homage to her family but it doesn't go further then that, and for me that wasn't enough to make this book worth it. I didn't like this one.
Probably my most favorite one so far. Well balance between story, background characters development and action. I also enjoy the way the universe is expending, darker, with weird monsters and Gods (those remind me a bit of the Hellraiser universe by Clive Barker in some ways). Great manga series, I'm glad I got those deluxe edition, they are totally worth it!
Interesting little work of fiction for children that I wasn't sure at first, but closing it, I very much like it. I like the way it brings on its subject. That instead of hating or being scare of stranger, we should talk to them and learn to know them so we can see that they might have some good bout them. A book about others, empathy and all of it envelop in a fun and «catchy» story. Well done!
Another great children book (I have gotten lucky recently). This one was all about following your childhood dream and achieve them as an adult. I like the duality it has one page child dream and one page adult living it, make it luck more «reachable», closer in time, and just represented so well that it was possible. Great purpose, perfect execution, amazing book!
Good little guide for young wildlife lover and adventurer. I get it as an ARC and I just wanted to add that in my version, some animal fiche weren't display right and were lacking the pictures. That being said, it contains a lot of information about animal and lot of activity/building to do to observe and attract wildlife in your backyard. Well done and fun to explore!
This book didn't please me. I felt bored not even half way in. The way it tell its story, the purpose of it, the subject and the way it try to bring it in... nothing seem to work in my opinion.
