Little boy dream of owning a Guinness World Records book. I decide to finally buy one. I love those for the funny facts aspects of some records. Even if i think that it lost something over the last decades, something going down to stupid records, it still has a lot of interesting one when you get in the natural/earth parts, the sports ones, the physical aptitudes or abnormality of it and some more. A good coffee table book that I enjoy exploring! Also very dense, all the pages are packs with records, there isn't any place that is not well use, so even if the book seem smaller, less bi then I remember those being, it has a lot of contents!
2,5/5. After enjoying the first one in this series, this one left my on my appetite. The Ogre Gods are just not there enough, almost not there at all and this was disappointing. I enjoy the black an white art a lot but the story lack what make it special in the first place. Introducing written full text chapters to present characters is also a concept I still enjoy, but again, not enough. original form, but the story hurts it all.
That was great! Like always with Lemire works. I enjoy the way it play with perspective and canvas. Great work!
What would you do? That is a «topic» of the book. Well I would surely take a lot less stupid decision that is for sure! The characters are dumb, very superficial, jealous of each others and just not interesting. The story start with a situation where the characters decision just didn't make any sense at all an it continue on with that all the way in. Just in case you didn't notice yet, I didn't like it at all! Still give it a fair two stars because the writing is alright for this kind of book, nothing fancy, but not poorly written either!
Certainly the most dark book in the series until now. More action, a little more mature, the two sides clearly begin to take form, the characters evolution is amazing. A very good one, maybe a bit long for the targeted public but definitely a good one, if you read and like the series until that one, you won't be disappointed!!
Second read:
Always great. The best moments of the book, and one of the best in the series, when they try to arrest Dumbledore! That’s awesome every time! A change in the story In this book, becoming more «adult», darker and more intense! Very good!!

Like every short stories books, this one has some great ones, some gone ones and some that are kind of lows. The overall is a good enough to make the read worth it. I like that is was horror/terror short stories for kids, which we don't see often enough for me (and some are actually very dark). I also like that the book present some stories in a different «format», when include more drawing that served the story and one is a comic/graphic story. Not perfect, but definitely a book that young horror fans should check out! Well done!
I loved the Summoners series by this author, but unfortunately Taran Matharu completely failed me with this new series. Sure it has a lot of action, but the characters, the universe, the plot and the overall feeling of epicness is just not there. Lot of things felt totally blank to me and I hate to say it because the guy seem to me like a good guy and an author with potential, but this one wasn't for me. It felt young and clichés, I understand this is middle-grade, so the fact that it felt young to me is not totally abnormal, but the Summoner wasn't feeling like that. The overall premises and mystery was promising, but the mystery feel very overstretch and even if we learn a bit in the last 15 pages, it was not enough for me. I won't continue this series. I will give the next Matharu series a try when it eventually came out, but for the Contender... I'm out!
