Nope... not for me. I find the illustrations to be way to sketchy. The story wasn't bad, a bit too light, closer to children book by its subjects than middle-grade, but for me it was the character that kill it. I didn't like Megabat, it just have nothing extraordinary or unique to make it stand out and just no personality. It was mostly the same with the cat. Completely blank character. Too bad...

Can't say it was a good one. I got caught by the tittle and the reference to The Couple Next Door in the description, this book has nothing in common with it... The story is predictive, the characters uninteresting and the writing didn't resonate well in my head at all, seems force and unnatural. Big deception!

2,5/5. I would I like more magic!! There isn't close to be enough magic in this one. The story become more casual then fantastic and this was a downer for me. I think younger reader, probably even more for girl, might enjoy it though. And the art, even if it look very simple, has an original look and vibe to it that I really like. Not really for me, not necessarily great, but wasn't bad either!

The title says it all. It’s illustrated in a good way and most of the words are «difficult»/rare but usable enough to be interesting to learn. Some are just weird word that nobody will ever use anyway but might make some kids laugh a bit. A good, easy and fun way to help kids develop their vocabulary and their passion/love (or at least less having less fear/hate) about words. Interesting concept and well executed!

Même constat que pour S'abandonner à vivre. Un recueil qui me laisse perplexe, un peu dessus et pour lequel je ne comprends ps trop l'engouement. Les nouvelles appliquent toutes une forme narrative similaire et manque souvent de punch. J'aime les nouvelles plus rythmés, plus près du thriller,avec une faim percutante, les nouvelles très littéraires qui opte pour le même ton qu'un long roman, mais dans un format court, me laisse souvent déçue. j'ai bien aimé Le lac, sans doute la meilleure selon moi, ce qui confirme que cet auteur à un talent fou pur décrire et présenter la solitude et l'isolement de la vie en forêt. Cet un auteur qui sait bien écrire également, le style y est, rien à dire là-dessus. Seulement un peu trop plat pour mon plaisir!

Could be a introduction to some beast from the fantasy world for kids, but this book isn’t very good. The story is use to present those mythical creatures, but it became more or less an enumeration of them, with some story around it. The story in itself isn’t strong enough to support the book. The illustrations are alright, not necessarily my taste, but they are good enough. I was expecting something cooler then that!

2,5/5. Bien écrit et sympathique, quoique trop léger pour moi. J'aurais voulu plus de réflexion, plus de sagesse. On perçoit la volonté de Mme Bertand de transmettre des idées, des opinions, mais la formule était trop douce pour moi. Ce n'est certes pas mon genre de prédilection,mais j'avais envie de l'essayer. je suis malheureusement un peu déçu et ne poursuivrai pas la série.

Maybe not the best one in term of story evolution. It sure have a lot of action and a good sentimental twist at the end. I sure love it. And it deserve a 5 stars without a doubt, but this series has put such high standard that it become difficult to reach it every time!

Fun, cute and marvelously illustrated. Really a nice bedtime story to tell to your children. Love it!

3,5/5. A story about day dreaming, the power of imagination and enjoying/loving what surrounding you. I like the message and the foundation of the story. But I didn't find the story in itself that much fun and entertaining to read. The illustrations were very colorful and pretty, but not in a style that please me much. Not necessarily my style of book, but not bad either!
