Not the funniest Simpson comic book I've read. The humor felt a bit old from time to time, like old used jokes. Some stories were really good but the overall is a bit disappointing.
This book is a bit different from the rest of the series. It follow different characters less «main characters». It gives different points of view, which is great, but we also miss some of our favorites characters. Anyway the universe and main story just continue to evolve in an awesome way, maybe a bit slower, but always really good!
Strange mixed of small written information for slightly older reader and illustrations (like kid drawing) of dinosaurs, that maybe very little children may enjoy. Older reader deserve better illustrations and younger one might enjoy bigger and even more basic information. Fail!
Great «anthology» of the women in the DC universe. Great if you want a proof that there is great women in the super-heroes/comic world, if you want to discover some of them, or if you're just a very big fan of comic and may want to remind yourself of some good old moment in the history of DC. Beautiful artwork, information on stories and characters and some pages of the original version of those great moments.
2,5/5. Highly mixed feeling about this one. The 100 first pages are really good. A dystopia world, a story that make me think of The Handmaid's Tale from Margaret Atwood, and which have the potential to be maybe not has strong but close. Then the last 200 pages happen... everything that work so well in the beginning is left behind. The characters barely evolve, all the originality in the universe and story are abandoned and we find ourself in a cheap thriller/political/science-fiction story and we see everything coming for more then 10 000 miles away. It just gave me the impression that the author had a very solid idea, but no story to keep it on track, and so they had a love triangle here, family matters there, and so on... The writing was not that great, and is not a weak point but not a strong one either. Also, the author being highly skill/educated in linguistic, and myself loving linguistic so much, I would have love to have more, deeper, linguistic reflexion/story elements/or basically anything related to the subject, because there isn't much. In conclusion, I had high expectation for this one, and was very optimistic in the beginning but this book felt short and was very disappointing in the end. Not recommending it!
Not as good as the first adventure of this little white fish. The story is less interesting, the vocabulary building less efficient, everything just felt a bit under the first one I've read. Not horrible, but not really worth it!
There is so much to say about this book. I decided to read the works of Emily Dickinson after I saw her name everywhere for a couple of week. I saw quotes from her in a book, a book about her, her name mentioned in another, and so on. So I found this book and decided to read her works in English, because let’s be honest, translated novel can be alright but translate poetry... less sure. I read it in English even if this is not my first language and I knew that some part of the beauty of the poetry would be lost to me, I still feel I would get more of her works by reading it in its original writing. It was amazing! I find some poems or a couple of lines here and there, that really speak to me. Some of it did not have the same effect, but you can expect a book that big with so many poems to please you with every one of them. I loved the poetry, the writing, the subject and the writer, this is a case of a writer that is bigger then her works, with all the mysteries and all around her. Fascinating work and author that I would recommend to everyone you want to explore poetry.
Cute little Halloween story about monster trying to be scary but realizing maybe there not the best at it. Simple, cute, fun and a good way to introduce the young one to Halloween!
4,5/5. A really good one, in most ways, a bit disappointing by the return of the villain, even if it's a adversary of choice for Logan, just feel as a bounce back in time in term of story, like we don,t have idea anymore so bring it back... not so sure about that choice, but still a very good issue!
Nativity christian story and pirates are two interest that I think few people share, so I think the targeted readers are very fews people here. The illustrations are wonderfull in the style and the colors, very modern and attractive for kids. The story... well pirates tell the nativity story... I love pirates... I grew up in a christian house so I know the nativity very well. But the need to mixed them both in a book... I really don't understand that choice and didn't find it very interesting. The pirates take all the serious aspect of the nativity story for those who believe it, and the nativity is too «serious» for those happy/trashy pirates. Give it two for the artworks!|
