Sky’s End is the first book in the Cassiel Winters series and takes you on a ride that includes, intergalactic warfare, good looking aliens, and a bit of mystery.
Overall I found the story to be quite engaging and pretty action packed. Cassiel Winters is a cadet with the ESE (Earth Space Exploration) and needs to pass her H2H test in order to continue in her studies. She joined mostly because of her brother Daz. He is considered one of the best pilots ESE has and although he is supposedly on a secret mission, Cassiel is worried something has happened because he has stopped responding to her missives. Cassiel also has a little bit of a secret as she just happens to have an ability that she refers to as deja-vu.
There is more going on here than Cassiel just trying to find her brother. When her test ends disastrously, ESE proposes a way for Cassiel to stay in ESE as well as potentially help figure out what is going on with Daz. Her mission is to infiltrate a Thell ‘eon ship and find out everything she can about a supposed weapon called a Sift. Also, Thell ‘eon’s are a race of aliens that just happen to be pretty intimidating for a number of reasons…including the fact that they just happened to kill the spies that were sent to their planet.
At times I found myself cheering Cassiel on and there were other times where I was thoroughly annoyed with her. She is smart and loyal and really wants to protect the people who are important to her. This includes not only Daz but King and eventually, Or’ic. Does she always make the right choice? Definitely not but she has good intentions so I give her credit there. She struggles with who she is and what her role is in the whole scope of things. I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t get into the details but it is clear Cassiel has a very different future in the works than she was originally thinking.
The Thell ‘eon horde is an interesting dynamic. Where things may make perfect sense to them, that isn’t always the case for someone not familiar. Additionally, we see them all making some adjustments to help Cassiel fit in. I had a bit of a love/hate relationship with these guys…mostly because of the way they treated Cassiel at times. I liked seeing the change in Or’ic just after the Candidacy and definitely appreciate what he did at the end of the book for Cassiel. I will be interested to see what happens next for the horde as well as between Cassiel and Or’ic considering how the rest of the story progressed.
There were a few editing issues and to be honest I didn’t care for the trademarking and how much content was italicized or in parenthesis but overall it didn’t hurt the story. I just found them slightly annoying. I would have also liked to know more about why the races didn't get along - it felt like it was just assumed that because they were all different and they had their own agendas that they were all warring with each other.
The end definitely opens up the story to address the many questions I have left and I will for sure check out the next book to see what happens. I’m curious to see what is next for Cassiel, King, Daz, and Or’ic as well as the Aeons and the Ires - this one didn’t end on a cliffhanger which always makes me happy. If you enjoy a story from the science fiction genre you may enjoy this book. At 400+ pages it may seem long but it moves quickly and is definitely an interesting take on Earth’s future with the alien world.

The Chaos of Stars mixes Egyptian gods with a present day sixteen year old named Isadora. Her parents don’t pay attention to her (they are immortal) and she jumps at the chance to move to San Diego to live with her brother and get away from everyone.
I found Isadora to be a bit annoying in the beginning – not that I blame her…I would probably be a bit put out if my father couldn’t remember my name and my mom decided to take over my room for a new baby. Regardless, she wasn’t my favorite character. I actually enjoyed the secondary characters more here – Tyler and Scott…OH and Ry. Seriously, a gorgeous looking nerd who writes epic poetry – who wouldn’t like him?? Plus...with lines like this one - SWOON!
"I like you. I want to be your friend, but I also want you in ways that are very much not just friendly. And I'm not going to apologize or pretend I don't."
Overall I liked this one….I can’t say that I loved it though. The premise of the story was definitely interesting as I enjoyed the Egyptian history and the underlying mystery helped move the story along. I think the fact that I was a bit annoyed with the main character is what threw this one off for me. It was a quick read and if you like to learn about gods and goddesses, definitely check this one out.

This was a nice surprise. I enjoyed Dmitri and Presley's story and thought Kennedy did a good job of developing the characters. It was a fairly quick read without making me feel like I missed out on anything.
Presley just recently broke things off with her boyfriend of 8 years because he cheated on her. After moving in with her friend Cora, Presley finds out that Cora lives a BDSM lifestyle and she is interested in exploring it herself as she is drawn to these types of erotic novels. The first step for Presley is to meet with Dmitri Pratt, the owner of Club Sin, to see if she fits the club and it was almost like an interview....a very interesting one.
Dmitri owns the club and he is definitely an alpha male. He found the lifestyle fit his need to be in charge and gave him an outlet for some of the frustrations he has had in his life. He hasn't had a relationship in a while and the first time he meets Presley, there is something about her that draws him in. After offering to train her, he finds that he is becoming more and more possessive about her. Not only is he training her in the lifestyle, Dmitri also helps Presley get back some of her backbone and stand up for herself.
Overall the story was well paced. The end felt a bit rushed to me and I found it interesting that things progressed as quickly as they did between the two main characters. I enjoyed the secondary characters and am glad to see this is going to be a series as the other Masters have piqued my interest and I will definitely check out the other stories when they are available.

You may have noticed that my ratings for the Beyond series have moved up since book 1. I find that I am enjoying these books much more than I originally thought when I read book 1. With that said, Beyond Pain is definitely the best one so far. Don’t get me wrong, Dallas and Lex’s story was good (and holy crap..HOT) but I found myself enjoying Bren and Six’s story a bit more…maybe because these are two pretty broken people who have been doing whatever they can to survive and in the midst of it all, they find something that makes them happy, wanted and needed.
Amidst the erotica in these books you get a dystopian story that involves gangs, politics, and family. The O’Kane’s really are a family and they take care of their own. It just so happens that Six has become one of them…despite the fact that she doesn’t always feel like that is the case. In book 2 she wasn’t sure what to make of them mostly because of the life she had prior to coming to Sector 4. The one thing she is sure of is Bren. She has come to trust him and knows he will protect her which leads to the beginning of their relationship.
Bren….YIKES. He is one possessive male and I loved it. Honestly, all of the O’Kane guys are something else but there was something about Bren throughout this book that made me love him. He is honest and clearly one of the most dangerous guys but he was always careful around Six and aware of what she needed. He also has a history and that is what is blended into the rest of the book.
On top of all the relationship stuff, The O’Kane’s are working to clean up Sector 3. Six has some relationships with people in that sector that allow her to help a bit. We also get more insight into what really was going on in Sector 3 and I won’t spoil anything here but I am glad we got more backstory on these characters. It helped move the story along well.
One of the things that Kit Rocha does well is weave all these stories together. There are so many characters here but they all have a purpose and while the majority of this book is about Six and Bren, we still get chapters from Ace and Cruz, about Lex and Dallas, and we still get to see the interaction with the rest of the O’Kane’s.
Now, don’t get confused…this is erotica. There is sex…a lot of it so if that isn’t what you like to read, you have been warned. If you do enjoy that, definitely check this series out. I have been pleasantly surprised as it is well written and has a great story. I will freely admit that I am really looking forward to the next book…I mean, it’s Ace and Cruz…come on!

This series is one of my favorites and if you haven't started it yet...do it now.
In Time is a novella that covers a part of what happens from the time Zu leaves the group and when Gabe runs into her. I won't go into a ton of detail here but this is definitely one you should read if you enjoy the storyline with Zu.
Bracken also magically tied it all together with The Darkest Minds and Never Fade without even including Liam and Ruby. Gabe is an interesting lead in this story and I loved seeing him change.
I am very interested to see how it all ties together with book 3...since I already knows what happens in Never Fade, I have a feeling I am going to have to wait a long time to get back into this part of the story. Unless...there just happens to be another novella coming out with these characters. I would fully support that decision.
Go check this one out and be sure you read book one and two as well!
