Overall rating would be 3.5 - 4 for me.
Overall this was a great story. Eleanor is a 16 year old living in Philadelphia in 1876 and the dead are wreaking havoc with the people of the city. The story begins with some action and zombies attacking which continues throughout the book. There is also an underlying story here in that Eleanor is trying to figure out where her brother (Elijah) is and why he hasn't come home. Enter the spirit hunters.
I really liked the characters in this book. Eleanor is a girl who feels out of place in the role she is forced to play. She questions everything and isn't one to just sit by and watch things happen. She really loves her brother and is so worried about him, she goes to the Spirit Hunters for help.
The Spirit Hunters are Joseph, Jie, and Daniel and all of them enhance the story. Jie lives the exact opposite life of Eleanor - she refuses to wear dresses and all the trappings and she shaves her head - all to keep the freedom she loves (and she is typically mistaken for a boy at first glance). Daniel has a good heart and is in no way perfect. He's smart, quick and very protective of Eleanor.
Eleanor's mother is what I imagine a typical mother would be like for that time period. She is very focused on their status in society as well as the type of marriage Eleanor can make due to the fact that their finances are becoming an issue. She pushes Eleanor to spend time with Clarence but Eleanor feels like there is something off about him as the story moves forward.
In all this was a great story and I would be interested in a second book as the way this one wrapped up, there is a clear continuation without leaving this one on a cliffhanger (which I completely appreciate). There were some parts that dragged a little but there is quite a bit of action and who doesn't like a story with zombies in it?

This was an interesting story. On a 5 star scale I would rate it a 3 - 3.5.
With all the updates and the things I was hearing I thought, what the heck...check it out. Believe it or not, I did find a plot underneath....everything else...and believe me when I say there is definitely a lot of everything else. There's definitely a lot going on here but I felt like I wanted more background. I wanted to know what happened and how the different sectors (or at least Sector 4) came to be. There was a lot of potential here to mix erotica with dystopian and it peaked my interest but in the end I don't know that this book won me over.
The characters weren't my favorite. Noelle definitely showed some growth throughout but I didn't really become invested in her and what was going on with her. I was happy when she didn't just cave when Jasper came back. As for Jasper, I liked him but again, nothing really happened in the book to make me love him.
I can see the potential in this story and if there happens to be another book I would like to see the author delve deeper into the backstories. Not just of the characters but also how things ended up they way they were and how things evolved.

If you can't tell...I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down. With two people whose reviews I can rely on telling me it was a good one, I dove right in and couldn't make myself put it down.
The story starts with a prologue that grabbed me and I was hooked. I'm not one to do a recap so I won't change my ways here but I will say that the story is good so just go and read it now. There is a bit of mystery, definitely a good dose of paranormal, and some pretty hot scenes between Ty and Lily.
The characters are well developed in this book alongside the different castes and dynasties. The main characters Lily and Ty are great. Lily is tough because she has realized over the years that she could only rely on herself. She was an orphan and grew up in a home where she didn't fit. The great thing about her as a character is that there are glimpses of her changing from keeping her distance to building relationships. First we see it with Bay and then we see it with Ty and Jaden.
Ty....he is a character that definitely has a past and has been living in a world where his bloodline is looked down upon. His interactions with Lily have made him realize that although this is the way of the vampire world, it isn't what the human world is used to. He struggles with this throughout the book but by the end he sees that it doesn't matter to Lily that he is a Cait Sith....she loves him no matter what his bloodline is.
I really liked the other characters - Jaden, Damien, Vlad, Anura, Bay....I am looking forward to the next books in the series just to see who they will be about and what happens. As a matter of fact, the second book is about to be opened on my nook...

I really liked this story. This story flips between the before and the after of Addie's life. The before and after refer to her time before and after she entered the mental ward she is in. Addie lives with her alcoholic and abusive father and while out for her daily walk, she crosses paths with Damien Allen. The town's golden boy - his parents are rich and have his life planned out. Damien is persistent and eventually Addie caves and starts spending time with him.
As you might guess, they fall in love and despite his family not approving of her and her father never finding out about him, they decide to come up with a plan to run away. I won't go into all of the details of what happens in the before but this thing that happens is what ends up putting her in the mental ward.
That isn't even the whole story - the after has just as many twists and turns and then BAM - surprises galore throughout the entire last 1/3 of the book. I had an idea of what was going on but only from the surface. There is a whole other layer of the after that, although there were definite hints that there was something off, I had absolutely no idea of what it truly was.
I am truly interested in reading the next book of the series as my curiosity is piqued and I feel like I need to know how Addie got from one point to the next...it is all the in between stuff that I am hoping is covered in book 2...fingers are crossed that I get the answers.

This one was interesting. The cover immediately drew me in...I started this and actually stopped reading it for a few days because I just wasn't able to get into it.
The story is about Jem who sees when people will die - the numbers appear if she makes eye contact. Outside of this part of the story we find that Jem has had a tough life so far. I actually forgot at times that she was actually only 15 years old. Jem happens to run into Spider and the rest is history. It isn't your normal love story - it is gritty and dark and at first I don't think she even likes Spider.
A lot happens here - I won't go into all of the detail but I will say I am curious enough in this to probably read the next book in the series. Having read a preview and the lead in from the ending to this book, I do have some curiosity around this new date being mentioned.

I feel like I over rated the 2nd book in this series...should have been a 3 because if I look at the series as a whole (so far) book 1 was my favorite and this one is rated higher than the 2nd - rating it a 3.5. Excuse me while I go back and adjust my star rating on book two....
Anyway, I was very happy to see this one focused on Damien. I was interested to find out how he ended up as a Shade. There is some back story and we find out where he came from but there really isn't anything about his past with Ty (even though we know something went down with them) or how he eventually came to be a Shade. The relationship that develops between Damien and Ariane is as expected. Again, not giving anything away here but I found it interesting that being as sheltered as she supposedly was, her hand was in his pants fairly quickly.
Overall the story has an interesting twist as Ariane is introduced and she is a member of the Grigori dynasty. The Grigori are the watchers and we find out just how old Ariane is as well as where the race comes from. I won't give anything away but there is definitely a difference in this race...more than being able to shift into a cat or a bat.
The characters from the other books are here as well which creates some consistency. The issues with the Ptolomy have not gone away and there are glimpses of Ty/Lily and Jaden/Lyra. Also, Vlad is back and I will say, I want his story to come up soon.

Also, Chaos is introduced and based on how the book ended, I assume he will be making a return appearance. The characters from the other books are here as well which creates some consistency. I liked this one almost as much as the first and am glad that we got to learn more about Jaden. It was great to see glimpses of Ty and Lily in this one but although the continuation of that story is important, that isn't where the focus was for this book and I was ok with it. I would probably put this a 4.5.
We know from the first book that Jaden has been through a lot and he doesn't really trust anyone. During the time he was helping Ty and Lily he had a run in with Lyra which didn't necessarily go well (all his fault btw). The book opens up a few months later and a chance run in with Lyra has him thinking about her again.
I was glad this one focused on these two and their story. Although I had the mystery figured out pretty early on I still enjoyed the interaction between Lyra and Jaden as well as the development of the story. It was well paced and I found myself, once again, turning the pages and thankful for a 2 hour flight.
The characters are engaging from the beginning...to be honest I was interested in learning more about Jaden since he was introduced in the first book and I can't say I was disappointed this book was about him. Dark hair, British accent, tough yet shades of vulnerability...sign me up! Lyra grew on me and I understood why she would decide to leave the pack for a bit as well as why she seemed so defensive around men. Again, the end result of what happened between Lyra and Jaden wasn't necessarily a surprise to me but it didn't take away from the story at all (in my opinion).
Overall, another great story by this author and I am curious to see who the next book(s) will be about. I am still keeping my fingers crossed for Damien...just putting that out there.

I loved this book - it is a wonderful mix of fantasy, paranormal and romance. Anyone who enjoys any or all of these things will definitely like this story.
Katerina grew up with a gift/curse for waking the dead. She made a point to keep this a secret and never told anyone about it but somehow, people around her knew what she was. I loved that this book combined the world of vampires, faeries, zombies, and witches with Russian aristocracy.
A lot happens in this book. There are a lot of balls and social events attended but the action outside of these are key as well. I enjoyed all of the characters in this story. Katerina is the main character and although her mother is pushing her toward marriage and family, she would like to be a doctor someday. She is supported by her father in this and he understands how important it is to her. There are a lot of characters in this book but they all have a key role in how the book progresses from Katerina's cousin Dariya, her roommate Elena, Crown Prince Danilo and of course, the grand duke George. I found that despite the number of characters, each one was developed enough for me to like or dislike them...and there was a lot of both.
I am very much looking forward to the next book of this trilogy. I found myself unable to put this down and as soon as I finish writing this review I will be looking to see when the next book comes out and it will be going on my "Really want to read" shelf. I am very curious to see how the next year goes (based on how this book ended) as well as what happens with Danilo and family.

This book...AHH. It made me love Warner - despite the fact that I know I am not supposed to. He's supposed to be the bad guy...right??
This story is Warner's POV and gives a glimpse of his life. While reading this I kept thinking that he truly does love Juliette. She completely threw his life out of whack (unintentionally) and even though he wasn't sure he liked it, it truly made an impact on who he is turning into.
This only made me more antsy to read Unravel Me....I need someone to take pity on me and get me a copy of this. Just putting that out there.
Excuse me while I go and re-read Shatter Me...I have been meaning to do this recently and I have high hopes that it will tide me over until I can get my hands on Unravel Me.
