I loved everything about this book. The Heiress Gets a Duke is the first book in The Gilded Age Heiresses series and it had my attention at page one.
August Crenshaw is an American heiress and we are introduced to her via her friend's betrothal ball where August and her sister come to realize that young women in society don't really have any power but of course, nothing like that would ever happen to them, right? Well when August's family goes to London for the season, they quickly find out that they may not be as safe as they thought.
August's parents are super frustrating in this story and I know...their thoughts aren't out of the ordinary for this time but ugh...I hated that her mother was only focused on the fact that a Duke was interested in their family. And the fact that her father seemed to be humoring August even though he acknowledged how much value she was to his company, just made me angry.
All of that to say, August was great. Stubborn but I thought as a main character she had the right qualities. She is smart and driven to make an impact in her family's business. She isn't focused (at least right now) on marriage and all of these things project to the Ton that she is "mannish".
Evan is the Duke of Rothschild and he may have a title but when his father died, the only other thing he left Evan was a lot of debt and a family to support. When his mother pushes him to consider marriage to an heiress as a way to solve his money problems, August's younger sister, Violet, is presented as an option.
Almost immediately there is a spark between August and Evan and August is willing to do just about anything to save her sister from having to marry the Duke. Unfortunately for her (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), Evan doesn't announce his intentions for her sister, instead he essentially declares for August and spends a good majority of the book trying to convince August that their marriage would be the right thing for both of them.
I loved the banter between these two characters and thought the way St. George kept the story moving along made the story interesting. Evan and August had some tough decisions to make and their negotiations that led to the climax of the story were exactly what I expected. The secondary characters add another layer to the story and I especially loved the relationship between the August and Violet. Even Evan's relationship with his mother and sisters was done well even though it didn't have a huge focus.
If you're looking for a new historical romance series, I recommend picking this one up. I will absolutely be checking out St. George's backlist and can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this series as I saw that it is Violet's story with a certain Earl and I'm already invested!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed How to Train Your Earl! This is my first book by Amelia Grey and it won't be my last.
Brina Field is one of our main characters in this book and when she becomes the focus of the ton because of what our other main character, the Earl of Blacknight did, she decides she won't make things easy for him. See, he made a bet (in the books) that he would win her hand in marriage by the end of the Season. What he doesn't know is that after losing her husband in an accident, Brina has no interest in marriage again.
As Zane tries to win Brina over, she challenges him and pushes him to become more respectable. What she didn't plan on was falling for him and with Zane pushing her to accept his offer, Brina has to decide what she really wants for herself.
Although this was the third book in the series, I don't think I missed anything by diving into it without reading the first two so consider picking this one up when you get a chance. I'll definitely be checking out more by Grey when I can.

I grabbed this book because the summary was interesting and I am really glad I did!
Ella is an orphan who is essentially living by the grace of the man who is now her guardian. When her mother died she was under the care of Mrs. Pembroke and lived a life she never imagined. She was protected, had nice things, and even was close to Mrs. Pembroke's son. What she didn't plan for was when Mrs. Pembroke died, her circumstances changed and now Mr. Pembroke has essentially turned her into a servant. While that wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen, her guardian also happens to take advantage of the younger girl servants and when his latest victim is found to be pregnant and then put out of the house, Ella becomes his focus.
The only thing that Ella has these days that allow her to escape her troubles is reading and when she comes across a book in the Pembroke library that grants her wishes, things take a turn for Ella. The thing about these wishes though is that there are always repercussions for choices we make and Ella has to come face to face with not only the life she has but the wishes she makes in order to get the life she wants.
This was an interesting read and I thought Harwood did a fantastic job of building Ella's story and taking the reader along with her journey. It was hard not to sympathize with her early on but then as things started to get out of control for her, I was pulled right along with her into the swirl of what was right versus what she wanted or felt she deserved / needed.
If you're looking for a story with interesting characters and a story that will pull you in, consider picking this one up. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the next book by Harwood.

3.5 stars!
I was excited to be able to pick up book two of the Night Spinner series by Addie Thorley. I will admit that I had to go back to book one to get caught up on where things left off before diving in and I'm glad I did as it was a great reminder of Enebish's story and how things wrapped in that book.
Enebish is in a tough spot with taking a stand against the Sky King and when her only allies, the shepherds, begin to doubt her, things become more difficult than they already are. I loved how Serik was the one person who helped Enebish keep her balance and the development of their relationship was really well done.
We also got to see how things are going for Commander Ghoa and when she is abandoned by her fellow warriors, she ends up being held captive by the Zemyan sorcerer Kartok where she learns more about his ambitions and what he is truly up to.
As Ghoa and Enebish cross paths again, they come to realize they need to work together to save their people and themselves. I enjoyed this book and thought Thorley did a great job with wrapping this series up. If you're looking for a YA Fantasy to pick up, grab this series.

I know I say this every time but I do love Kerrigan Byrne's books and when I open one up, I know I'm going to be able to get lost in her story.
Tempting Fate is the fourth installment of the Goode Girls series and our main characters are Gabriel and Felicity. Gabriel is the disfigured older brother to Raphael and Felicity is the twin to Mercy Goode from the last book in the series. While I enjoyed this story, I was slightly underwhelmed by the characters and I don't know if that's because Mercy and Raphael were so interesting and engaging while these two were more shy / quiet and reserved but there was something about these two that didn't wow me. With that said, I was cheering for them the whole way.
I loved that Felicity didn't care about Gabriel's roughness and by keeping his secret, Gabriel risks having any sort of relationship with her but when things come to a head, it's Raphael and Felicity who help them to see what they could have.
While this wasn't my favorite of the series, I did enjoy it. I appreciate that Byrne continues to bring the other characters into her stories with the main characters so we can see what is going on with them. If you're looking for a new historical romance, consider picking this one up and don't forget the other books of the series.

This is book four of the Duke Dynasty books by Sabrina Jeffries and if you haven't read the other books of the series I definitely recommend you do before picking this one up as they all are intertwined around the children solving the mystery of the suspicious deaths of their mother's husbands.
Everything comes to a head in this book and not only do we get to see how things pan out for Sheridan and Vanessa but we also get to find out who is behind the deaths and why. I enjoyed seeing the relationship change and develop for Sheridan and Vanessa in this book. Since we've been introduced to both in prior books, it was interesting to learn what was really going on in Vanessa's mind. I also loved that the characters from the other books were included in this book - it's always great to see how things move forward for them one their book ends.
If you're looking for a new historical romance, consider checking this one out.
