Kasie West's stories never fail me...I loved this story but the narrator's voice was not my favorite. Full review to come.
Another great story by Kate Bateman! She has quickly become an auto-buy author for me as I love everyone of her books that I've picked up.
This story is focused a jewel thief called Nightjar and Alex Harland, a Bow Street agent, is going to solve the mystery of who Nightjar truly is. When he keeps crossing paths with Emmy Danvers in his investigation, he starts to feel things he hasn't felt in a while. Emmy has secrets and with Alex on the case, she knows she is in danger of being caught. I loved the way the relationship was developed between these characters and the chemistry is great.
If you're in the mood for a historical romance with solid characters and an interesting story, check this one out!

I really enjoyed this one and have found The Spitfire Society books to be thoroughly engaging! In this book, Jane Pemberton has moved into her friend's house (the official HQ of the Spitfire Society), away from her family, and is embracing her status as a spinster. When she finds an unconscious Viscount Colton on the doorstep one night, she decides to not only nurse him back to health but having found out there was a rumor about her amongst the men of society which contributed to her five failed seasons, she also takes the opportunity to negotiate payment in the form of lessons...the kind she would never be able to ask of anyone else.
I loved how the relationship was built up between these two characters. Anthony has been punishing himself for the deaths of his parents and as he and Jane become friends and ultimately, something more, Jane is the one he finds he is willing to listen to and trust.
I'll definitely be picking up more books by Darcy Burke! Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the review copy.

A Secret Surrender is the first book in The Pretenders series by Darcy Burke and I'm definitely looking forward to picking up the next one to see how this series moves forward.
This story involves Selina Blackwell, someone who has learned to do whatever she needs to in order to survive. When Selina returns to London to give her sister a Season, she does so in the form of Lady Gresham. The thing about Selina is that she also needs to make money to support them so she is also a fortune teller known as Madame Sybila and she draws the interest of a Bow Street Runner, Harry Sheffield, who's father happens to be an Earl...and not fully supportive of his wife's patronage of the fortune teller. Based on his father's nudging, Harry starts to investigate Madame Sybila and things begin to get interesting.
Selina has a lot of secrets but as she begins to form a relationship with Harry as Lady Gresham, she has to figure out what is most important to her. Not only is she trying to maintain secrets and multiple personalities but the brother she thought was dead just happens to be someone Harry is interested in tracking down. I enjoyed how these characters' relationship was built and thought Burke did a great job of keeping the core of the story at the front of mind.
The secondary characters were all interesting and I will definitely grab the next book in this series to see where Burke takes it. If you're looking for an engaging historical romance, check this one out!

I think this one may be my favorite of all of the Sins for all Seasons books by Lorraine Heath. I don't know what it was about Benedict (Beast) and Althea but this book was a fantastic end for the Trewlove crew.
Benedict can always spot when someone doesn't belong and the minute he sees Althea, he knows she isn't supposed to be where she is...serving drinks at his sister's bar. While Althea may be out of her element, she isn't afraid to stand up for herself so when Beast asks her what she's doing there, she basically tells him to mind his own business. From that moment on, he is intrigued. Beast is a protector so when he finds a way to help the ladies in his care alongside of Althea, he does what he can to make it happen.
I loved these two characters from the moment they met and the way their story progressed was perfectly done. As the story progresses, they have their challenges based on who they are to society. As Althea has fallen through no fault of her own, Beast learns who he is and why he ended up with the Trewloves. Both events create some tough decisions that these two have to make and face.
I'll definitely be picking up more Lorraine Heath books and since the mystery behind what Althea's brothers are doing is still to be resolved, I'm extra happy that they will get their own stories.
I picked up this entire series based on a recommendation and I'm really happy I did. The characters are all well developed and getting to see the entire family throughout the series made it even better as I love when I get to peek back into past characters lives to see how it's going. If you're looking for a historical romance series that will keep you engaged and interested, definitely check this one out. Make sure you grab this installment for sure!

Book two in the Devil you Know series did not disappoint - I love the Red Rogues!
This book is Cecelia's story and while I didn't actually recall if he was in book 1, Redmayne's brother Ramsey takes the lead as Lord Chief Justice of the High Court who happens to be drawn to Cecelia but also at odds with his feelings because of who he is and what he has found out she has inherited. In the same day that she inherits a gaming hall, Cecelia is confronted by the Lord Chief Justice regarding missing girls and he vows to take her down...without knowing that the Scarlet Lady is actually now Cecelia in disguise. When he eventually finds out, Ramsey is definitely not happy.
Ramsey is most definitely a brooding hero and comes across as intimidating but for some reason, Cecelia isn't afraid of him. They are a case of opposites attract as well - she enjoys life's pleasures and he does everything he can to avoid them. She is soft and he is hard...I could go on here but you get the idea.
Byrne does a fantastic job of building out the backstories of Cecelia and Ramsey and it's great to see how both have overcome the challenges they have had. Both are familiar with loneliness though and maybe they recognize something in one another...whatever it is, it made a great addition to their story. As Cecelia finds her purpose (with the impact the gaming hall had on the women/staff), she also challenges Ramsey to figure out what is important to him.
As always, Alexandra and Francesca are involved in the story but I liked that they both took a backseat to Cecelia this time and with that said, I can't wait to see how Francesca's story goes. I have an idea we will get to see more of a certain character introduced in this book and I can't wait!
