Why, why, why aren't the rest of the books of this series on audio?

I love this series and now will need to re-read 2 and 3 so I can have more.

I loved the cover of Haven by Mary Lindsey and when I read an excerpt of this book, I realized this book is one I needed to read. This tale that will have you wondering who really is the monster throughout the entire book and you won’t stop trying to figure out what is going on in New Wurzburg.

Rain Ryland hasn’t had an easy life. He and his mother have lived in shelters and on the street throughout his entire life so when his mother dies, and he finds out he has an aunt who will take him in, he is a bit surprised and a lot confused as to why his mother preferred to live that way as opposed to relying on family.

When Rain gets to New Wurzburg, he senses something different about the people and the town, but he has never really fit in anywhere, so he isn’t that surprised that he stands out here too. Rain is immediately drawn to Freddie and despite her doing her best to push him away, Freddie is also drawn to Rain. I thought the way the relationship was developed between these two characters was well done. Freddie does her best to keep Rain out of danger and her life but there are external factors at work that she just can’t stop.

I loved how Lindsey developed the characters in this book. Not only Rain and Freddie but also Grant, Petra, and Ruby. We get to learn everything that is going on right along with Rain and pieces of information come from every angle. I thought it was interesting how we get Ruby’s story which provided more information on why Rain’s mother made the decisions she did. I really loved how Ruby and Rain’s relationship developed and how they became family.

Freddie’s family was interesting to say the least. With a pack mentality, there were those that accepted her place and others that weren’t supportive. As she continues to search for the truth behind her father’s death, she is definitely not as secure in her leadership as she would hope. As we start to learn more about Freddie and her family as well as their relationship with the weavers, thing start to become clearer. Add to that the groups intentions for Rain and the pace and danger begin to pick up.

That’s about all I can say without ruining anything. Just know that Lindsey wrote a story that not only has well developed characters, but she built them around a paranormal story that had me unable to put the book down until I knew how things were going to end. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to more from Lindsey in the future. If you are looking for a story that will have you turning the pages to see what happens, consider checking this one out.

We All Fall Down by Natalie Richards is a book I was waiting to get my hands on since I read the summary. I love a good mystery and Richards always comes through with an interesting story that keeps me guessing until the very end. Also, the cover is perfect!

The book starts out introducing us to Theo and Paige. They have been friends for a while and Paige has always had a crush on Theo. It hasn’t been until recently that Theo has started to have the same feelings for her but Paige has come to a conclusion that Theo will never see her as more than just a friend, so she has set her sights on someone else. The night Theo decides he is going to tell Paige what he feels, is the same night that Paige determines she is going to put herself out there with another boy and Theo realizes he is too late. This is where things go incredibly wrong for them both.

When a fight breaks out between Theo and another character at a party on the riverbank, Paige attempts to intervene and ends up getting punched by Theo. As the scene plays out, Richards takes the reader into the fray with these characters and it was heartbreaking to see what ends up happening with these two. I wanted to be able to rewind everything for them both, so they didn’t need to go through this but if that happened we wouldn’t get the rest of the story.

Theo is an interesting character. He is a bit impulsive and high strung and Paige is the one person who gets him. Similarly, Paige suffers from anxiety and Theo is the one that helps her when she has her attacks. Their relationship is a bit co-dependent, but they can’t seem to give each other up. That is, until they are forced to. The outcome of the party is that Theo is put on medication and put on probation and he and Paige can’t be near each other.

Now I’m not going to say a lot here about what really is happening because I don’t want to ruin the story for anyone but there is something that continues to draw Theo and Paige back to the bridge where there happens to be a lock with their initials attached to it (along with a bunch of others). As Theo digs deeper into what is happening, strange incidents continue to pull them along to the end.

I enjoyed this one and if you are looking for a contemporary that delves a bit into the paranormal, consider checking this book out. I thought Richards did a wonderful job of building out these characters and their story and I will continue to look for more books from her in the future.

As soon as I knew Romily Bernard had a new book coming out I put it on my TBR list. In all honesty, she could probably write down her grocery list and publish it and I would want to read it. Regardless, Never Apart is one of those books that will have you guessing from page one what the heck is going on.

Grace lives the same five days over and over again and every time she has to watch her boyfriend die. She can’t figure out why this is happening, but she is willing to try anything to get out of this loop and stop jumping around. When we meet her, she has done this over 40 times and until she can figure out what it was that got them in this situation, things won’t change.

I loved how Bernard set this up with the now and then chapters. We get to see Grace as things are now in her current fall, but we also slowly get the backstory of what happened to put her, Ander, and Finn in the situation they are currently in. Because of this structure, it is a slow reveal. We learn more about each of them along the way and there are quite a few twists and turns throughout.

Grace is a solid character and I loved reading her then chapters and then watching her navigate the now chapters trying to figure out what was going to happen. I can’t really say too much about what is going on and how things move forward as I don’t want to ruin any bit of the story for you. I will tell you that you will experience all kinds of feelings reading this book and that is a testament to Bernard’s writing. She pulled me into these character’s lives and I couldn’t help myself from experiencing everything right alongside them.

Trust me when I say that Bernard knows how to write a story that will have you turning the pages to figure out what is really happening. I was unable to put it down and when I got to the end, I couldn’t stop thinking about these characters. I had the same experience with her Find Me series and can’t tell you how much I continue to look forward to books by her. If you are looking for a suspenseful young adult book that has great characters, an engrossing story, and some romance, look no further. Check this book out and thank me for the recommendation later!

I enjoyed this novella and it actually made me want to check out the rest of the series. I did pick up book one in The Cruentus Curse books almost immediately and enjoyed it. It is difficult to review such a short story but having now read book one, I can say it was great to get a bit of backstory on Lena, Lucien, and Christian.
