I thought that the beginning of this book was a bit slow. Not the dreadful slow that makes you want to put the book down, but the slow that just takes you time to get through because you aren't hooked. I found myself once telling someone that not much had happened yet. But that is the key word- YET. Once the action started picking up, I felt that it got much better! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes Stephen King!
A great second book in the series! I was hooked the entire time while I was reading this. The ending is a great cliffhanger! I can't wait to read more!
A great read but a very sad story about mental illness and the struggle that comes along with it.
I really enjoyed this book! I was hooked from the very first few pages and now that I've finished it, I want to read the second book as soon as possible! The authors writing style is awesome, her descriptions of the area are great, and I LOVED that it was set in Portland, Maine! I would recommend this book to anyone that likes dystopia themed books like the Hunger Games or the Divergent series.
A very good book! The review on the cover states, "Fans of The Hunger Games will love it."-Kami Garcia. That is very true. If you like The Hunger Games, the Divergent Series, or the Host by Stephanie Meyer, you'll love this. I can't wait to read the next one!
A great read! Though I did feel that the ending was a bit weak...mainly because I thought there were some loose ends that could had been tied up before the last couple of chapters.
The beginning of this book was a bit slow, but it sure picked up! This was a very quick read. I enjoyed reading this book, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to any of my friends. However, I did like the storyline enough to become interested in reading some more books in the series.
I loved this book! It took me a while to realize that there were multiple story lines going on but once I actually paid attention to the dates at the top of the chapter, that became obvious. This book also took me a short time to become hooked, but once I passed the 100 page mark, I couldn't put it down. It was a typical, "just one more chapter...then I'll stop reading of the night," kind of situation for me.
My two favorite quotes from this book:
"The finest pleasures are always the unexpected ones."
“Someone needs to tell those tales. When the battles are fought and won and lost, when the pirates find their treasures and the dragons eat their foes for breakfast with a nice cup of Lapsang souchong, someone needs to tell their bits of overlapping narrative. There's magic in that. It's in the listener, and for each and every ear it will be different, and it will affect them in ways they can never predict. From the mundane to the profound. You may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone's soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. That tale will move them and drive them and who knows what they might do because of it, because of your words. That is your role, your gift. Your sister may be able to see the future, but you yourself can shape it, boy. Do not forget that... there are many kinds of magic, after all.”

The best piece of nonfiction I have ever read! From the very first paragraph of the book, I was hooked. This is the type of book that I had to force myself to put down every now and again so I could enjoy it for as long as possible. There were a few instances when I was reading before bed, forced myself to put it down, and woke up the next morning feeling antsy and worrying about the characters of the story.
