In this issue Deadpool, Irene Merryweather and Prester John are investigating the murder of the worlds most dangerous terrorist (Haji Bin Barat) who Cable had living on Providence in hopes of turning him into a good guy. However, Deadpool discovers that it was him that killed the terrorist- but he can't remember why.

When I first heard that this cross over was going to be released, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it! But when I found out that it was digital only, it slipped deep down into my TBR list... Unfortunately this one didn't live up to my expectations. However, I think the series as a whole has potential!
My thoughts:
Hm. This is a tough one to review. This read definitely didn't live up to the hype that I had given it... but perhaps I just need to be patient and check out the rest of the series.
As a beginning to the series, I think this was lacking. The storyline seemed only like a very brief introduction. And to me it just felt rushed. Some of the dialogue didn't flow well, and in a few instances it seemed like words were missing, like, "And you kids even worse."
I don't yet care of any of the characters or what was going on. But we'll see how things change in issue 2!
The artwork was alright, but certainly not my favorite style. I greatly prefer illustration that is consistent from panel to panel, and I didn't think that was the case here.
My final thoughts:
Unfortunately I didn't much care for this comic. But I'm definitely going to give the others a try, as I think this has the potential to be really neat. Fingers crossed!

A short while back, you may have seen my post, Kickstarter Project: Our Final Halloween. When I read the promotional details and saw a sneak peek into the comic, I backed the project immediately.
I am so very thankful to have been given an early release copy of this, and I’m so glad to say that it was just as incredible as I had hoped it would be!
This comic is a wonderfully blood-pumping, anxiety-inducing tale that really comes to life through the extremely vivid colors of the illustrations. If you’re looking for a great Halloween read, look no further… This one will really set your Halloween night off on the right foot!
When we begin the story, we read a bit of narration to set the scene while looking at a seemingly quiet town. But once you flip the page and get a glimpse into one of the houses on the street, that totally changes.
Five kids have “woken up” in an abandoned house. Per the synopsis: They don’t know why they’re there, how they got there, or whose blood they’re covered in. Yikes! But things are about to get even weirder… The five soon discover notes written on the walls and on each others arms; notes that they had written, trying to warn themselves.
The portal is already open… Will the kids heed their own warnings before it’s too late?
Phew, I loved that the team starts off totally clueless. It really added a wonderfully scary tone to the story right from the start. Plus, ya know, the fact that they were all covered in blood also played a major role in the creep factor as well.
The storyline flowed so well! I loved how each of the panels were organized, sometimes swapping back and forth between the characters in different rooms of the house. I just couldn’t wait to see what happened next!
The artwork was really neat! I loved the color palette that was chosen and all of the texture that was added in. I loved how simple it was, but how vibrant. I also loved how bright the blood was, and boy was there a lot of that!
And of course… with all the very best horror tales…. THAT ENDING! Perfection.
In this copy, there is also bonus content which I thought was really fun! I loved the additional sketches and how the style of each page was so different from the next. Then the essay on seasonal horror by Shaun Kimber was also super interesting! I didn’t know that this was a sub-genre of its own!

The Beast of Wheeler Ridge: Beauty and the Beast meets Jurassic Park:Gritty fantasy thriller
Chris Stevenson (aka Christy J. Breedlove)
The Beast of Wheeler Ridge by Chris H Stevenson is a paranormal/sci-fi romance that is packed with savage attacks, bear traps, forest fires, and mystery. Centered around a man who will do anything to protect a woman with a rare condition that appears outside of his home one day, you’ll see just how far this man is willing to go.
Full disclosure: I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way.
This is a story about a DNA cloning experiment that had gone wrong. Instead of cloning just a breed of wolf that had previously gone extinct, this scientist wound up with a giant wolf, a hybrid human/wolf, and something else…
All of the creations have been locked away in a bunker. Each raised by the scientist. One day, one of the creations escapes. While they are distracted trying to find the first escapee, another, much more dangerous creation also escapes…
Meanwhile, a forest ranger hears something rustling outside of his home. He goes out and when he sees eyes reflecting back at him, he shoots and the thing falls to the ground. When he gets closer to see what he had hit, he realizes that it’s a woman, but she’s covered in hair. He bring her up into his home so she can recover from the wax bullet he hit her with.
When she comes to, the two of them quickly become acquainted. He believes that she has Hypertrichosis, otherwise known as “Werewolf Syndrome.” Before he knows it, he’s helping her with her “maintenance,” and the two become closer and closer every day that they spend together. Little does this forest ranger know, there’s a lot more to this mysterious woman’s story. And he’s about to find out that he’s in a very dangerous predicament.
I really enjoyed that this book began with a chapter all about something fleeing through the woods. It was clear that something was very wrong, but as a reader, you didn’t know what just yet.
Overall, I really enjoyed how the facts were given to the readers slowly. It was interesting to see how little the wolf/human hybrid actually knew about herself.
The DNA project itself was my main interest and I couldn’t wait to learn more on that front! The action was also very well done. The chase scenes and the dashes of violence were my favorite elements of the book by far!
Beware, the negatives
As the novel mainly centered around the romance, it wasn’t a huge hit for me, personally. **UPDATED TO REMOVE COMMENT THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY HERE – The author commented that this bit will be changed**
However, I will say that the chapter where they go shopping was adorable. I loved that Seth thought about feminine hygiene products. I also really loved how protective he was of her overall.
**UPDATED TO REMOVE COMMENT THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY HERE – The author let me know that this was likely just my version that had some errors with the Kindle formatting
My Final Thoughts
When I finished reading this book, I can definitely say that I enjoyed my time reading it and I would recommend it to others. I loved the mystery and the action! The characters were well-developed and interesting. But unfortunately, as the novel mainly centered around the paranormal romance, it just wasn’t a huge hit for me personally. Check out the review from Kaye on Goodreads to get another opinion!
If you enjoy paranormal romances filled with action and nervous anticipation of what would happen next, I would highly recommend this one to you!

Out At Sea by Aiden Merchant is a brutal short story set out on the ocean in freezing temperatures. Grab a warm beverage and prepare yourself before diving into this one!
Full Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way. I also purchased a copy!
The main character, Denver, has recently joined a a fishing crew doing odd jobs on the ship. While still getting his sea legs and dealing with freezing temperatures, Denver is spooked by thumping noises. His cousin, the captain, tells him that it’s just the waves hitting the boat.
But when the caption goes on deck to take a look and doesn’t return, Denver fears for the worst.
He could never have imagined the reason why he cousin didn’t return…
This is a short story that packs a major punch! The author sets the scene immediately and dives right into the action. I was so hooked! I was so nervous about what was going to happen next with each and every scene!
My Favorite Passages
**SLIGHT SPOILERS BELOW**
Denver tried to speak but found that he couldn’t. He was panicking now, the cold rushing down his throat and burning his insides.
He thought nothing of the sound at first, but then a chill shot down his spine. Something in the air had changed, getting his attention. A warning.
His torso had been torn open and devoured like a baked potato, leaving chunks and blood all over the floor.
My Final Thoughts
Filled with terror and suspense, this one will have you holding your breath!
If you enjoyed Into The Drowning Deep by Mira Grant, you will love this one!

The Horror Collection: Black Edition (THC Book 2)
Kevin J. Kennedy, Mark Lukens, Veronica Smith, Michael A. Arnzen, Becky Narron, James Matthew Byers, Eric J. Guignard, Richard Chizmar, Lee McGeorge
The Horror Collection: Black Edition was wicked intense! As this one covered some dark elements that I am just not a fan of, this collection wasn’t my favorite. But if you’re into horror tales with horror and sex, then this collection would be a hit for you!
Even though a few of the tales weren’t for me, I still really enjoyed the collection! Per usual, many of the tales are going to stick with me for a long time!
Out of the eight tales in this collection, I absolutely LOVED two of them! Unfortunately, a few were just not in my horror interest range. So please keep that in mind when considering my notes below.
Per usual, here are my quick reactions and rating breakdowns for each story:
The Lake is Life by Richard Chizmar – 3/5
Ah man, we used to play a game similar to flashlight tag called deer hunter. This tale really made me miss that! I loved the bits from the conversation between the witness and the police that added to the suspense of the tale.
Pie Bingo: Last Man Standing by Veronica Smith – 3/5
YIKES! This one was wicked intense and gruesome. I’m personally not a huge fan of tales with torture which is why this one was a three for me but I still greatly enjoyed the story overall. The idea behind the plot was so scary! This one is gonna stick with me for a long time.
Goblin Financial by Lee McGeorge – 3/5
Woah! This one was so dark!! Another with torture, hence the lower rating for me personally. But man, if torture porn of your thing, the start of this will be a hit for you! I personally enjoyed the second half more when it got really intense!
The Switch by Mark Lukens – 5/5
Ah! This one made me feel so claustrophobic!! Phew. Wonderfully done! This one made me think of Thirteen Ghosts! “Greatness requires sacrifice.” Eek! Now I need to go rewatch that film!
Those Who Watch From On High by Eric J. Guignard – 5/5
Woah. This was heartbreaking and wicked suspenseful. The author did a wonderful job portraying elements of PTSD and making the timeline jumpy but in a way that still flowed. My heart broke for Lee.
The Ghost of Agnes Gallow by James Matthew Byers – 4/5
So creepy! Tales like this really get under my skin! Ghostly revenge that passes along from generation to generation is such a scary premise.
A Tarantino Oz by Kevin J Kennedy –
This story had a warning; “Warning! The next story may be considered extreme.” I grinned when I saw this and couldn’t wait to dive in. And darn it! This one was not for me simply because of said extreme content. For those that enjoy the sex-related elements here though, it’d be a home run!
Smolder by Michael A. Arnzen – 3/5
Woah! Intense!! Don’t smoke cigarettes, friends!

Go Preemies! Inspirational Stories of the World's Most Famous Preemies by A.P. Male illustrated by Jamie Rockwell is an awesome little book for anyone to check out! It's also the perfect book to add to your gift list this year for your favorite preemie!
I was a preemie, born weighing 4lbs. My niece was born prematurely as well. For her first birthday, I wanted to gift her something memorable. When I saw this book, I knew I had to snag it. My husband had an even better idea... to add a custom page to the back of the book!
I absolutely love that this highlights some of the worlds famous preemies. I had no idea these people were born premature.
On each page, we were given a wonderful short bio about each one along with some amazing illustrations!

Memory Hunters by Tony Moyle is the follow up to Memory Clouds, both of which are YA Dystopian tales set in a world where technology rules, for better or for worse.
While in book one, we saw all the good that this technology can do, we also saw a bit of the bad. In this story, our main character continues his quest to solve the mystery and heal the planet.
Full Disclosure: I received an early release copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way. (I also purchased a copy of the final version as well.)
When this story began, I was so happy to see that the author made sure to explain things here and there in a way that refreshes the reader on what happened in Memory Clouds.
But then, we really met Tyra… Oh my gosh, I was so ready for her to either get a smack, or have her big eye-opening moment. The teen angst here was intense! I personally downright hated her. (Great work Mr Moyle!)
On a more exciting note, I was so happy to see that we got to spend more time with Jake as he continued his quest! I was also pleased to see that Paddy and Dinah were back in this tale as well. Dinah is by far my favorite character in these books!
One character that I was really excited to learn more about was Christie. When we pick up with her storyline, I just felt so bad bad for her. Poor Christie was dealing with both the confusion and irritation at being forced to deal with her guides and Tyra, all while just trying to find Jake.
I loved that we followed the two main dual storylines, but that we had various other perspectives scattered throughout as needed to help drive the suspense and mystery!
Per usual, I couldn’t help but laugh at the pigeon references! The first one was a reference to a band called the Pigeon Detectives. The second was when a character was trying to round up pigeons.
My Favorite Passages
Like most of life’s challenges, change always felt worse before it occurred. More often than not, people’s anxieties evaporated when they realised it wasn’t as bad as they first imagined.
At the turn of the last century an epidemic of mobile phones use meant it was literally impossible to be late or lost ever again. The magic didn’t work on everyone. Back then technology could tell you, but it certainly couldn’t make you.
Like the monsters that lived under your bed when you were a child, the danger felt real even if there was little evidence to suggest it existed.
It left him with only two passions: regular mugs of tea and incessantly grumbling.
Above their heads the waves had carved a few steep steps in the shallow cliff face, most of them unseen until you reached them. Slippery, wet stones, barely big enough for a size five foot, dotted irregularly here and there on the ten-metre ascent to the top. There was no handrail to support your progress, only the occasional tussock of grass brave enough to exist in the face of the obvious odds against survival.
Uncertainty was by definition uncertain. Trying to crack it only created additional scenarios to why it was there.
It would be easier to train a slug to pole-vault than it was to teach a narcissist anything.
My Final Thoughts
If you enjoy YA Dystopian novels with interesting tech and a crazy web of mystery, you gotta pick this one up!

Per usual with these types of collections, here are my rating breakdowns for each story along with some immediate thoughts/reactions.
I was so excited to see some familiar tales in here. It was great returning to them again!
Christmas in Hell – 5/5
I love this tale so much. It hits on all the grumpy feelings I have from time to time about the holidays and how out of control things have gotten. I love the path this story takes and that ending!!
Sisterly Love – 5/5
Yikes!!! The matching outfits… Sheesh.
Merry Fuckin’ Christmas – 5/5
This story gets me every time I read it!! I love that when it begins, you think all is well. Soon you realize something is wrong, but you’ll never guess what is about to happen next. What a heartbreaking story with a killer ending!
Christmas on the Streets – 5/5
Yikes! What a spooky one! You better watch out…
One Shift Too Many – 5/5
Brutal!!
The Christmas Surprise – 4/5
As this one had a sexual theme, it wasn’t my favorite since that’s just not my jam. But oh my gosh, this one had me giggling at first. Of course this woman’s curiosity got the better of her! Beware mysterious gifts!!
Down the Bizarro Watering Hole – 5/5
I love this one so much! While this tale was certainly a bit bizarre, it also has plenty of horror in a very real world sense, then concludes with a heartwarming bit. What a great way to end the collection!
My Final Thoughts
This is such a fun and dark collection of great tales that I will definitely be returning to during the Christmas season for years to come!
