This book had such a good premise - crime fighting maidens protecting other women from evil men. The mystery was interesting and the plot of the sex trade could have been great, but it fell so flat in the end. We never find out what happened to Linnie, except that she was apparently in on it?? Scarlett gives up being a badass crime fighter to become a wife who supplies her husband with ideas of reform that he will probably get all the credit for. The story focused so much on the romance that the mystery was almost completely forgotten at times. Ambrose was so close to some amazing character development, but then in the end never seemed to change his opinion that his duchess could not remain a Maiden of Mayhem because he ‘couldn’t protect her’. It ended up being just another story of a women giving up everything for a man. Overall disappointing and not as feminist or progressive as it tried to be.

A bit slow for most of the book, but I did like how everything connected in the end!
