I really liked the opening chapters but it fell apart for me quickly after that. Too superficial and just no spark, I guess...

I have bought this book because the physical copy is gorgeous: beautiful cover and I love the illustrations inside as well. However, the actual text is mediocre at best. The book is just under 200pages and has a lot of whole page illustrations, so I wish it covered a smaller area a bit more deeply. As it is, the book is a collection of superficial discussions of topics related to witches, real and mythological. It does not feel like it was put together very intentionally. Additionally, the writing is not great.
But, still glad I have it, it'll look beautiful on my shelves :). The pretty-ness has inflated my rating a bit, if I was just rating the text, it would probably be 2.25 or 2.5 stars.

I really enjoyed the writing style of The Antrhopocene Reviewed, which is meandering without being confusing. This book felt like a giant TAR essay, so of course, I loved it. It was absolutely heartbreaking in places and made me angry. Green is also very good at projecting hope in the face of despair, and he does a good job of it here as well.
I liked how the audiobook handled the footnotes (just incorporated them into the text).
