Very informative, but very dry. I found that the conclusion did a very good job at drawing some conclusions from what went before and made some great parallels with other colonial situations.

I unfortunately did not really like reading this. It's not very easy to put my finger quite on why I didn't.
There's some issues with character motivations for me. And I could not get over the complete 360 Rin & Nehza's relationship does - compared to book 1; I had to pretend he was a new character. I felt Rin was just so naive/gullible throughout too.

The plot was kind of interesting but all the above made it still a bit of a slog to read....

This was such a lovely novel :). Despite it being a bit sad at times it was quite a cosy story.

I was hoping
that Sebastian would show up at some point
, so I found the ending very satisfying.

What a weird book. I think I liked it? But it's hard to say, it's so unusual. I really liked the first half or so, but grew increasingly sceptic toward it all. The ending, I think, pulls it all together and makes what came before make more sense.

I definitely did not like
the whole Amgam charade. She was so underdeveloped as a character - she never speaks - and so Thomson falling in love with her only through Garvey's story made zero sense to me!

The Light in Exile

DID NOT FINISH: 20%

This was just not grabbing me. There was potential, but of pushing through a bit further wasn't too appealing to me, since the sequels may be very hard to get a hold of. What do I do if I end up loving it!?
