I found this book to be slow starting. It took me around ⅓ of the book to start to be invested in the story.
While I don't think things were rushed, I do think this could have been a little longer to flesh out the characters and story more.
Certain things I felt there wasn't enough build up too. How Viridiana character growth happened. How she seemingly quickly switched personality. I would have liked to see more of the change in her.
I felt like parts of the story were missing in a way. While yes the story is complete I just wanted more build in areas.
While I did enjoy this, I wish some things weren't so easy to figure out. Especially who the bad guys were. Which maybe the point was to have them so obvious but guessing the truth so easily lowered my enjoyment a little.
I do hope Silvia writes more thrillers in the future as their was so much potential here.

This is my second Mary Kubica book.
After really enjoying my other book by Kubica I was excited to read her latest release.
Sadly this wasn't as enjoyable for me. While I still enjoyed it I also felt this had some issues that lowered my enjoyment.
Between the writing just feeling off compared to her other book. With some things over explained as if to extend the length.
I also felt the story was a little predictable. With some character inconsistencies that made it obvious to me that the character was suspicious.
While I can acknowledge there was supposed to be a twist, it didn't feel like one as it became obvious the direction the book was going.

This was a little difficult to rate. While I did enjoy it I also felt some parts just didn't work for me.
The writing felt too slow and hard to get into. I found it a struggled to pick up. But by the second half it hard become easier to get through.
The story itself was interesting one to follow. Showing how people online behave felt very real. How easy it is to jump on a bandwagon and sent hate without doing any research then jumping to the other side once new information comes out. Also showing a behind the scenes of the publishing industry. Especially the side when a controversy hits.
However June was unlikeable in every way. Its hard to have sympathy for someone who truly doesn't think she did wrong. While also being racist throughout the book, she believes in her own hype that she never deserved. She doesn't learn in fact she becomes worse as time goes on. Fame and attention hungry she will do anything to get that next book.
