4.5/5 stars
I had really high expectations for this book after enjoying the first one as much as I did. Although it wasn't as good as the first, I found myself liking this book for different reasons than A Game of Thrones.
In the first book I really liked the story, but didn't like the characters personalities as much. In A Clash of Kings, the characters were my favorite part of the book and made up for my small disappointment in the story. This one contained lots of build up to the very end of the story, and I read the last 3/4th of the book so much faster than the rest.
My favorite POV characters in this one were Sansa and Arya. I loved how Sansa grew up and changed throughout her time at Kings Landing, becoming a much more loveable character. Arya's chapters were filled with so much action and I admire her strength.
Out of the other characters, I came to like Tyrion by the end. His chapters were filled with such witty lines that made me smile during all of the intense scenes. Also, where was Dany throughout this book?! I think there were only about four chapters from her POV. That made me a little upset as she was one of my favorite characters from the last book, but I enjoyed her chapters nonetheless.
Overall, I liked this book but I felt it fell a little flat in the story department. Still, I came to love the characters so much more and I hope this new love for them will continue throughout the rest of the books! A Storm of Swords here I come!

After reading the first sentence of The Shadow Society I was hooked.

I had been considering reading this book for a long time, and I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect from it. This was the first book that I have read that had the slightest thing to do with demons, so I was excited to see what it was all about. When I heard that there is a movie coming out in August of 2013, I decided that, yes, I had to read it. Wow, I am glad that I did. I read this book in about a day, and when I wasn’t reading it, I was having withdraws about not being home sitting on my bed and finishing in.
The main character Clary (Clarissa) Fray, learns that she is a Shadowhunter, after she witnesses a murder. Later she finds out that the murder she saw was committed by Shadowhunters, and that the boy they killed was really a demon. Now she is brought into this new new world of demons and downworlders. She is looking to save her mother, who was attacked and taken away, by someone of that world. Meanwhile she finds out that she is a bigger part of all that is going on that she thought.
My favorite character would have to be Jace. He’s mysterious, and has a little sense of humor, and best of all he cared about Clary! I’m excited to see who will be cast as Jace in the movie that is coming up (there are rumors of Jamie Campbell Bower), as he is just so loveable from the readers perspective! I like Clary as well. She has a stubborn personality, and will get what she wants out of people. But she is also a great friend to Simon, who is the mundane (human) that she’s been friends with forever. (Lily Collins was cast as Clary). Of course you can see that there is a love triangle happening between Clary, Jace and Simon, which I really liked a lot!
There is adventure, romance, fantasy, and danger! I was pulled in, and I loved everything about this book!

Unfortunately as a sci-fi book, The Here and Now fell short for me.

Like all of Jennifer E. Smith's books, I fell in love with the story before I even read the book.

If asked to describe this book in one word it would be - FUN! It's like a reality TV show in book form. Filled with drama, boys, and romance.

Special thanks to Jennifer Echols for providing me with a copy of the book for review!
I want to start out my review with saying this: I’m not a music person. I’ve never played an instrument, never really listened to music other than when it plays on the radio in the car. But I am a HUGE Taylor Swift fan. That’s what drew me to this book. I saw a review that had called this book perfect for fans of Taylor Swift, and I was sold. I think the fact that even though I’m not a musical person and still really enjoyed Dirty Little Secret says a lot.
