All the Acorns on the Forest Floor follows three storylines related to motherhood: a couple with the hope of a new pregnancy, a woman learning of her adoptive past, and a marriage on the brinks while dealing with infertility. This book is one that pulled on my heartstrings as a mother. I loved the exploration of all the facets of motherhood - whether a woman has birthed a child or not, and how women can become mothers in non-traditional or unexpected ways. Definitely a short story collection to add to your list for a reflective fall or winter read.

DNF, but went ahead and read the last few chapters for good measure.
“I still couldn’t believe what I’d just done. Jesus, I am a total bitch. I should go back in there and apologize. But what good would that do?” A summary of our MC. She has no redeeming qualities and does not care about anyone else, including ruining people's lives for the sake of her podcast. Multiple cringey storylines came out of this, and her whole internal dialogue was just not it.

Let me start by saying that when it comes to historical fiction... I am very picky. I used to read a ton of it, but it is no longer my go-to genre, and to stick with a book, I really have to love it. That being said, this was SUCH a compulsive read for me. The dual timeline during and right after WWII was executed perfectly to the point I'd end a section and be like AHH I have to read more.
Next, the subject matter. WWII spy network + Paris after the War + the start of Christian Dior's career + strong females + mystery + romance was just EVERYTHING. Such a good blend to make this book really unique and interesting. Absolutely recommend picking this one up!

DNF @ 33%. This book has really wonderful reviews, but after trying to get into this book for 3 weeks, I think it's just not for me. It was pretty slow-moving and I'm not sure if it's more of a "not right now" book that I'll go back to eventually, but I've decided to leave it alone for now.
Thanks so much to BooksForwardBFFs and Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR) for the copy of this ARC.
House of Yesterday is such a unique YA book, touching on the memories and trauma of the past and how they affect the present in a tangible way. The author drew from her Afghan-Uzbek heritage and used it to create a generational immigration story that's framed perfectly for a YA audience in this a coming-of-age novel. I loved the embodiment of the ghosts from the past and thought it added a very cool layer to this story.

This was a unique blend of historical fiction and Dungeons and Dragons. While you don't have to know the ins and outs of the game because the necessary information is given in the book, I think this is still a niche read for people who love D&D and want to read historical fiction about North Korea in the 1990s. It wasn't for me, and I think would've preferred another medium to experience this piece of history.
