4.5/5 stars! Didn't enjoy it as much as the first, but only by a fraction - honestly, the ending kinda disappointed me, but in a bittersweet way?
I read somewhere that this is a ACOTAR fanfic... I don't if that's true, but if it is I TOTALLY see it.
I really enjoyed this! I think Sorcery of Thorns is better, but I'd definitely recommend those who liked that one read this. Technically, it's perfect. Like everything about the writing is technically sound. BUT I did feel like the world-building was a little lacking. If it IS a fanfic, that's probably why. Fanfic writing is so great because you don't have to do ANY world-building. SoI wish it has more of that. Otherwise, A+!

EDIT: why didn't I give this 5 stars??? 5 stars!!

This was so chilling and startling and I LOVED it. It's about Gyre's physical, and then psychological, descent into a cave that has done nothing but kill people. The cave slowly comes alive around her, all while her handler, Em, tries to keep her grounded to the surface while urging her to keep descending further while keeping all the secrets as to WHY Gyre is down there in the first place.
My removal of the half-star really boils down to the pacing of the novel. There were a few times where I felt something went over too quickly, and times where it felt dragging and didn't move on quickly enough.
I've been easing myself into horror, and this sci-fi/horror mashup was PERFECT.

I'm not quite sure how to rate this one. On one hand, I loved the conclusion, and I think it all really wrapped up and made sense with the rest of the story, but on the other, I can't help but feel a little bit disappointed with a couple minor things and I feel like there's a bit of a disconnect with the first novella though it's still an integral part to the story.
Overall though, I enjoyed it, so I think I'm gonna give it a solid 4/5 stars.

I feel so disappointed by this. I wanted a weird out of body experience, and its definitely not what I got. Its definitely a quick, entertaining read, but just not the weirdness I wanted. And the ending especially disappointed me.
