I remember a Happy Prince doll animation from my childhood which was incredibly sad and always made me depressed. Yet it was so beautiful and when I now found out it was Wilde's story I was awed. I liked all of them for their bittersweetness but this particularly is close at my heart.

"I had so worked upon my imagination as really to believe that about the whole mansion and domain there hung an atmosphere peculiar to themselves and their immediate vicinity—an atmosphere which had no affinity with the air of heaven, but which had reeked up from the decayed trees, and the gray wall, and the silent tarn—a pestilent and mystic vapour, dull, sluggish, faintly discernible, and leaden-hued."

I forgot to rate this last spring, and in case I don't get around to writing a review, I just need to warn you that my rating is less about quality and is significantly amplified by nostalgia. Pretend that there are about 20 reread dates.
