4.5 / 5 ~ Excuse me while I go cry in a corner.
A very solid finale to a brilliantly crafted series.

I wouldn't have put myself through this if this book wasn't a gift..
I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed this. Spent an entire day just reading it from start to finish.
The romance was nice. I liked how it was soft, sweet, how it took its time.
But what I appreciate the most is that both main characters have their own stories to tell, beyond simply being a love interest. It's not just a book about two people falling for each other, there's so much more to it. And both their stories are interesting.
The secondary characters are also well fleshed out.
Tiny upset: that last chapter could have been a little... more.

Oh well will you look at that... I've fallen in love with a couple of Bastards and the city they live in.
3.5 Aw. Cheesy, and full of non surprising twists but hey, sometimes a cheesy story about girls falling in love and deciding to live in happiness instead of sadness and envy is exactly what we need.
PS: JC Lillis scared me for a minute when my boys Abel and Brandon weren't happily together but of course she mended that part too... ;)

THIS REVIEW IS IN FRENCH AND IN ENGLISH.
EN : I just couldn't NOT give this book 5 stars. It was amazing !
I have never found myself saying (out loud) 'WOW' or 'WHAT?' more than when I was reading Vicious. I absolutely adore the characters - their relationships were brilliant.
Brilliant is atually the best word to use here. I found it so clever and perfectly-thought-through. Great job Mrs Schwab, I am picking up more of your books !
I must say, I wish I'd read this when I had more time to devote to it. I read most of it in many small sittings and I think I would have enjoyed it from the very beginning even more if I could just sit down and get into it.
I felt like the chapters were way too short, we were skipping between time periods too quickly. I found myself almost angry at the book because it went to a different timeline just as something major was happening in the one we were reading. But I suppose that means I was enjoying each chapter so much I didn't want them to end.
It simply never ceased to amaze me.
FR : Ça arrive ! ;)

Yep.
I now remember why I loved it the first time.
Everything is so well thought-out. The darkness (and greyness) of the characters gives me life.
I really hope Vengeful won't disappoint...

"Why is Patrick Ness your favourite author?" I hear you ask...
Because reading his books is always an experience like no other.
It is always filled with emotion and unexpected elements that make each story unique and new in a way that a lot of popular novels I read (and love to read, don't get me wrong), don't.
And The Ocean Was Our Sky does exactly that.
4.5 ~ I have read no book quite like this one.
It was a beautiful experience that is, I'll admit, quite hard to talk about. I would only urge you to pick it up and experience it yourself.
I loved how we were told the story of whales, but in a way that felt very much like they were humans.
With ships, towns, sails and armour, they hunt men who live beneath them, in the depths of the Sky.
Except they realise, both the whales and the men, that a demon is a threat to them all and go hunting for that demon.
It was difficult at times to visualise exactly what was happening, as it is a new take on the lives of a whales, whose Sky is the ocean depths and whose depths is the air and land men walk on.
However I didn't seem to mind...
It is mysterious, it was unknowable because it isn't our place. It is not even important for this story.
And of course the beautiful illustrations added a lot to the already chilling atmosphere.
