This was seriously painful to read. Classic? Okay, fine. But I still found it crummy. I don't need any philosophical baloney in my TBR pile. I really nearly DNF'd this one, but held out simply so I could check it off a couple of my challenge lists. Thank goodness it was short. Unless you're a philosophy major or enjoy torturing yourself with existentialist jibber-jabber, skip this one.
This is a good and easy beach read, but I found that the fact that I had seen the Traveling Pants movies totally destroyed any surprise factor. That was a bummer. So while I enjoyed the story and the characters, I was a bit bored by the read. Had I not watched the films, this may have rated slightly higher.
Sometimes I struggle with classics. This was one of those times. I can appreciate the plot and I think that Hawthorne has created some very good (and complex) characters, but I just got tied up in the period narration. This may be one that I need to reread in the future, but for now it was just kind of an okay read for me. Not bad, just not something I got super psyched up about.
A good follow up to Dorothy Must Die. I enjoy the spin on the original Oz and Paige has a good imagination. It was a good story and did do well with continuing the story, but it just didn't grab me as well as the first in the series. However, I had enough enjoyment with it that I needed to hop right into the next book as soon as I was done.
A good continuation of the Dorothy Must Die series, but was a bit more juvenile in the narration in the beginning...that detracted from the enjoyment for me. It did redeem itself as I continued to read. And...you would think I would have learned to check series before I start them. I read this thinking it was a trilogy and that I had all the main novels. Nope. Four books. And I don't have the last one. Dang it! I will be searching it out so that I can complete the series.
