Very imaginative plot. Read quickly and sucked me right on in. I didn't want to put it down...so much so that I stayed up WAAAY past my bedtime 2 work nights in a row. It was worth it.
Perfectly whimsical and endearing. Different from the movie I have long associates with the story, but (not so surprisingly) ever so much more entertaining. I’m looking forward to continuing the series.
Really, really enjoyed this book! I liked the addition of the ephemera, I think it was a nice touch. The book wasn't quite what I was expecting, but it hooked me right away. I really liked the playlists and even found some new music to listen to. The characters and the narrative were wonderful and easy to slip into. I had some difficulty with the ending since the book is a standalone and I felt like I wanted to know more of the story and keep going. Other than that, no complaints. Looking forward to reading another of her novels soon.
I LOVED this book! I have historically liked Lauren Oliver's writing, but I have been used to her dystopian reads. I will admit that I was very much impressed by this one. I enjoyed the dynamic characters and I actually was quite entertained by the fact that I actually didn't like the title character for the majority of the book. I was pretty impressed with how much I was engrossed in the story line given how often I rolled my eyes and shook my head at her. This is a fantastic YA read along the message lines of 13 Reasons Why, but has a fairly original approach to the narrative. I liked the journey and thought that it was well thought out without being overly preachy or condescending. Plus...all the feels.
This book gave me the feels from the beginning. I knew it was going to end up being a 5 star from early on as long as then ending wasn’t a total flop. Thank goodness it wasn’t! The best YA novel I’ve read in quite a while. Highly recommend!!
I loved this book. Very charming. It's a very good adaptation of the Peter Pan story. It doesn't take anything away from the original version. If anything, it actually takes away a little bit of the fantastical and makes the story more believable.
I kind of loved this one. It's one of those books I just want to hug. YA fiction at it's finest. There were several spots where I could totally identify. It was like a mini-high school refresher, painful at times but mostly comfortably nostalgic. Without a doubt I will be looking to read more from E. Lockhart.
Totally blown away by this one. I knew it was popular, but I liked it a lot more than I expected. Super fast-paced and intriguing story with great characters and a fun storyline. Hilarious banter along the way and some pieces that reminded me of character interactions on the short Christmas film series, Prep and Landing. Highly entertaining.
This is a perfect middle grade read for adventure seekers who love whimsical fantasy. Great for adults as well since it has a well-crafted story that really just is fun from start to finish. 100% will be continuing the series and super excited to see where things go. This was one of those books that I wish was about twice as long because I couldn't get enough of it.

This is one of the absolute cutest early middle grade reads. Matilda is an adorable character with great personality and she serves as an excellent example to young kids about believing in yourself. If you've watched the movie, it follows the narrative of the novel pretty closely, so it was good to read these characters and have the visual pictures matching up to what I'm familiar with in terms of the film.
I like that there are multiple levels for understanding the story and I think it becomes more and more of an evolving social message as the reader ages. There was definitely more of a gut-wrenching response from me on this read since I have young kids of my own.
The writing is perfectly age appropriate and somehow, despite the absolutely horrible way Matilda's parents and Miss Trunchbull act, it doesn't read overly scary for that set. The pacing is fairly quick and there are great bits of minor entertainment throughout.
Matilda herself is just the best character. She is intelligent and humble, has a great sense of moral character, and is quite confident despite her horrible upbringing. She is a truly wonderful child and an encouraging character for children that they can rise above challenging circumstances.
This is my favorite Roald Dahl read thus far. A great classic.
