⭐️ 5/5 ❤️ favorite [chronique en FR ci-après]

Édit//reread in July 2023. Still my favorite devil so far. I love Drew SO MUCH, she deserves the whole world.

I am officially in love with Elizabeth O'Roark. I didn't know it was possible, but I liked this novel even more than the first one, even though the first one is now one of my all-time favorites. I think I have a soft spot for tortured musicians (I recommend The Happily Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez if you want to cry a little more).

This book was perfect from start to finish, its characters so...so lively and the writing so emotional. I especially enjoyed the double POV because that's what I missed when I read 'A Deal with the Devil'.

Another favorite, and I can't wait to read the 3rd one (and also all the other books from this author).

Unfortunately, this second book didn't do it for me. I get how the writing style and the way the story is built can win over some people but it just pissed me off. I really hate it when authors outright gaslight me without any shame. Careful about the spoiler incoming but the whole 'you have to understand that the Aslan I knew was dead and this is how I experienced it' is just a LIE because he was indeed not dead. So, the story, the writing, the way it alternates between the interview and the past, and then the ending wasn't enjoyable for me. And I mean, I didn't think there was a thing such as 'too much trauma' because I love my character being in pain (insert manic laughter) but in this: there is! And it's just, it's actually a thing to read it and experience it with the characters, but the other characters' reactions, their behavior, and the way they talk and talk and talk about it FOREVER UGH, I can't even explain how this story frustrated me!

Anyway, I got the satisfying-ish ending I was hoping for, so there's that I guess.
