To say I loved this story would be an understatement. It repaired my little heart disappointed by so many other romances with the same pitch )including a very well-known one of which I will not mention the title or the author).
This novel features a love triangle, of course, but treats it so well, with such gentleness... and if you know me, you know that it’s one of the tropes that I love the least, so just seeing that this book is now one of my favorites should convince you to read it.
One of the main tropes is also memory loss, which is one of my favorites, especially when it occurs before the story is set up. Here, it creates tons of tension and anxiety and introduces us to the characters twice, first as children through flashbacks, then as young adults in the present time.
And besides, let’s talk about this double temporality so well managed, which left me hanging at the end of each chapter, unable to put the book down.
In short, a soft romance, magnificently well-written, with very touching characters that moved me to tears.

This book was extremely funny. I felt like I was watching a romantic comedy the whole time I was reading. The fact that Lavender has been Finn's unsuspecting nemesis, without them even really meeting each other all these years, added just the right touch. She really is the black cat of Finn's life. Everything falls apart around him as soon as she's around and it's very fun to read, if a little long at one point. You really end up wondering how he's going to overcome his almost-fear of her to come to fall under her spell and finally come to understand that these terrible things happening to him are also of his own making and his sometimes risky choices.
In the end, I was delighted to see the characters realize their faults and the impact they've had on each other's lives, whether positive or negative.
A lovely love story, but beware: no spice.
