The first two parts are a bit slower, more of an internal monologue and a couple reflections to frame Evie as a character, but the actual plot picks up from chapter 5-6 onwards and while I knew what was going to happen I was flying through it to find out when and how it would unfold. The narrator's voice was gritty and cynical which helps make the story feel a lot more immediate and makes it more obvious that Evie is still reeling with PTSD over the event.

I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did but the way Le Guin delves into spiny and complicated topics so casually is truly mesmerizing.
The various POVs only clarify the world building tangentially which makes you feel like you too are seeing a culture from afar, and in turn this gives the similarities and critiques of our own culture a bigger "punch". The language and slang however can be confusing especially if you're (like me) not used to sci-fi, but honestly once I realized there's no way I'm going to get every single reference on my first reading and just plowed on, my experience improved by 100x. Some books are meant to be read more than once to truly get them and this is one of them.

One of the characters hunts small game for food; this is not described in detail.
A group of characters has a biological variation that makes them able to predict the future, this is framed as painful for them, yet a different character points out that it's a "gift" not to be "cured" even if they're hurting.
The characters of the planet present cyclical sexual dymorphism, the narrative goes into detail about the biology of this which could trigger dysphoria in some readers.

It's a very good romance novel, with lovable characters and a fresh take on the usual tropes. Personally I feel the dialogue didn't flow swiftly, and seemed to be a filler rather than telling us more about the characters -but then again that's most romance novels.
Overall an enjoyable read, would recommend if you're a romcom fan (like the man himself).

Moderate: Body shaming
Minor: Bullying, Fatphobia, Homophobia, Panic attacks/disorders
The MC makes several but brief comments about weight and calorie watching, and engages in physical activity as "punishment" for ingesting certain foods. It is mentioned that MC was bullied as a kid for being fat.
MC goes through anxiety attacks in the text. They're described in some detail.

I would've loved this book when I was 16 tbh, but as it is, it was kinda weak. There were plenty plot points to keep things interesting, but the characters didn't have much substance and and fell into the tell rather than showing trap. Evangeline was kind of annoying (calling herself ugly and undesirable while both plot and narrator show us that she's anything but), and at one point the events happening felt manufactured and self-indulgent from the author, per example:
there is a whole B plot where vampires are briefly introduced, despite them having only minimal importance moving forward, it spans for several chapters; cameos from characters from the author's other saga are also constant and while not vital to understanding the book, the appearances are framed as a wink WINK that doesn't add to the story.
I think for a fantasy book it lacked some depth, and sometimes it seems to sacrifice the themes for a good ol' shocking plot-twist. If you're on the younger-ish side an/or are on the look out for a quick read, this one's your book though.

Exquisitely written, my only critique being maybe the abrupt ending and those five to ten pages of Wilde reading a catalog of fabrics, furniture and artifacts from 1880 to illustrate that Dorian is vain. Also warning: you might get the urge to fling yourself into a chair to express emotion.
Graphic: Drug use, Racial slurs, Suicide, Blood, Classism
Minor: Pedophilia
Period typical racial slurs and exoticism. Read with several grains of salt.
Also idk if it was just me knowing Wilde's backstory but the idealization of "childlike" youth/beauty kept rubbing me the wrong way.

Pleasantly surprised with this one. It raises the stakes way more than the rest of the trilogy and I found myself really caring for the characters this time. Glad that I forced my way through them because the plot twist(s) were so worth it!
I tried to give this one a chance but it was so annoying. Maybe if the author was less worried to virtue signal she could've actually told an interesting story. Boring characters, boring conflict, ilogical setting and awful pacing, bye.
Graphic: Racial slurs, Violence, Antisemitism, Car accident
Several mentions to antisemitic microagressions, allusions to holocaust and bomb threats to places of worship. One of the characters' parents is in prison for badly hitting a minor. None of these are relevant to the plot.

Most of the specific info like addresses and tech advice is kinda obsolete, but the general chapters are both informative and fun to read. Not that I'm taking advice out of this, nor that I support nor plan to partake on the activities here presented.. (◠‿◕✿)

This scratched an itch in my brain that I didn't know I had. Last couple of chapters are a bit repetitive so docking off a star but overall such a great book. I can already hear myself quoting it at parties to be the most annoying person in the room :D
