2025 update
I really don’t understand or like the fact that she skipped an entire scene near the end and it was pretty important one as well. I understand that she “exploded” or whatever but still. The book was a bit too much “war like” for me, the endless conflicts, war and murders etc but I’ll continue the series for sure to see how it ends.
Dnf/ haven’t picked it up in 6 months.
Will continue reading it later, just got super tired of it.

Okay so I’m conflicted. Felt like it went over the same shit over and over again but still a good story
Let's give it a proper review because I can't be bothered to write my University essay right now.
This book has a fantastic start and perfectly combines A Good Girls Guide to Murder and The Inheritance Games. We have the bright young girl who wants to solve mysteries that "have already been solved, but she doesn't believe they got the right guy." However, in Stevie's case, the mystery is decades old, and she has to travel to the very, very cold mountains to do it.
I liked the book and gave it 4,5 stars. The only reasons it doesn't get the full five-star review are 1) it left so many questions unanswered, and I don't think we got an answer to a single thing in this book. 2) whyyyy did Maureen feel the need to sneak politics into the series? Ridiculous; I want a murder mystery where a 17-year-old solves shit she shouldn't be able to, not a political plot.
I can't stand David, he's so annoying, and it bothers me that Stevie likes him!

I'm writing this review a week after I finished, and I can't remember what happened in this book for the life of me. Don't get me wrong, I remember the mystery and all that, but I can't pinpoint anything that happened in these 300-something pages.
The politics in this series is just way too much. I hate reading about politics and politicians. Get them out of my books.

3,5 stars
I forgot that the next book isn’t out yet and I’m sad

3,5 stars? I’m conflicted, to be honest.
A very solid read, as Stephen King always delivers a good read. However, I’ve mostly read horror stories by him so I was expecting something more.
The book was good! I would’ve liked a loooot less of discussions around SA but understand why it was in the book, being a purely male prison in the 1950’s. Would’ve also liked a little more in the end, but got more than I expected.
