I'm so glad that the books are progressively improving as we approach the end of the series! Something I never appreciated when I read these the first time round is how much "Lemony Snicket" is a master of suspense!

Pretty sure this is my favourite one since the first one! There were some brilliant plot twists, we found out a lot about VFD without too many answers coming at once, and there was some really great characterisation. I love that Sunny is getting her own growing-up-story, and it was really great how Violet and Klaus confronted the ideas of what separates them from villains without it being too heavy. I hope the last three books live up to this one!

An enjoyable enough read, but as I remember from when I read these before, this is the point at which they begin to get slightly repetitive. I'm looking forward to seeing the Netflix episodes for this book, though, as if the first six are any indication, there will be some exciting things in store!
