Good start to an interesting series

This book follows Gaia after she was kidnapped and lost her memory. She is independent and witty, and even though she continually gets kidnapped she seems to find her way into people's good graces. There is a nicely wrapped ending that sets up for the second book while not leaving an annoying cliffhanger.

My only critique is that it's hard to establish an era for the setting. The royalty aspects, pirates, and some of the dialogue seems medieval, but there's small modern bits that indicate a more present time era.

I will admit that I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue reading this series, but I am glad I did. Gaza's journey is heartbreaking beautiful, and really getting to see Dominique's feelings in this book made it so much better. I'm rooting for them in the end, the guy who keeps trying to walk away but physically can not stay away, that's the keeper.

The ending is not my favorite bc I can never understand pushing someone away like that when you obviously love them, I want tears in the middle and smiles at the end.
