Tana French is a master of atmosphere. I almost came around to this book, even with how slow the plot unfolded, but you know what? ACAB. Especially this one. The kind of cop who complains about diversity training and moves to an all-white village in rural Ireland is the bad kind.

There were a lot of elements about this book that I enjoyed, but honestly I have a hard time believing Tana French's own views and politics didn't leech through to Cal, here. It really turned me off, but happily I don't have to support her or her work in the future.
