a decent fast read. i wish i could've have more development of the side characters surrounding meghna and the app idea, while interesting, seems a slice unethical (no informed consent). nevertheless rani and meghna had interesting if slightly underdeveloped chemistry
that was actually masterful my god...katherine arden i was not familiar with your game. so poetic and beautiful but not overly written. this is a book about war and memory and grief and love and it does every single one of them so well. the relationships in this are so well-developed.
mrs. chiu was the real mvp. a servicable ya romance and fantasy that explores the concept of happiness in an interesting way. i enjoyed the dynamics of the two mc's, but the book felt static and a bit fast-paced at times.
mina so down bad it was lowkey egregious but i get her i love tall "evil" women too #solidarity like her asking if the witch had been with a girl before...NASTY WORK ik mina was tweaking when she asked that
an enjoyable fantasy that has a strong central couple but i felt that more focus on side characters could've helped establish a stronger sense of environment

very interesting look into a completely alien world to me; i enjoyed the fast-moving plot and the tense dynamics of the warring characters who are vying for the papacy whether they like it or not. this just shows me how crazy religion can be
FINALLY... this deadass took 382919 years due to my ap lit class being slow as hell. achilleus GAY helen INNOCENT agamemnon ANNOYING hektor DEAD... that's all i have to say
in all seriousness obviously this is a classic for a reason. it's weird to say this is well-written, but i think lattimore is a great translator and while i did start to resent this book (my class spent two months on this damn book), i thought it was pretty profound. free helen my girl is innocent btw

batshit crazy memoir some of the things that occurred in this book seem almost too wild to be true, but mary karr writes deftly and with a strong voice that places you in leechfield with her and her family
there were times when it got a bit too existensial and lyrical for my tastes, but overall this was a superb and beautiful ode to earth and human life. very poetic in its writing, with some stunningly crafted sentences. short, but it packs a gorgeous punch
it's kinda giving young royals for lesbians icl (i never watched young royals)
this book follows dani, a young musician who moves to henland and falls in love with the crown princess, rose, while attending a prestigious private academy. i like sophie gonzales' writing; she's a great ya author and i generally tend to like her books. i think this may be my favorite of the four books i've read that have been by her.
i loved the dual-pov; it allowed us to explore both rose's journey to reforming her reputation after a previous accident, and dani's exploration to finding herself in a new country. their individual arcs were well-done, and their relationship was well-developed. i found myself rooting for them to get together. watching them struggle with being together while facing societal challenges was realistic. i liked how the side characters were fleshed-out, especially molly. her relationship with rose was complicated and imperfect, and it was treated in a good way. i think the book is well-paced too; i never felt bored or rushed.
my only complaint is that the country is called henland. we couldn't have been more creative? are the people hennish? that's not real
overall i really liked this; i think it's a great ya romance with plenty of well-developed characters and a strong central romance that still takes into consideration a well-done plot. i would recommend this to queer ya readers or previous fans of gonzales' work.

a semi-cheesy but decent romp of a romcom
this book asks this question of what if your favorite piece of media was actually occurring in the world you live in and what happens if you get swept up in it? we follow tess rosenblum, a hotel manager who finds herself immersed in the world of blood feud, her favorite vampire book series, along with her ex-best friend joni, as they fall in love with two vampires.
the writing can get a bit cheesy and unbelievable at times (there is no way callum and tess fell in love that fast i refuse to believe it). i found myself questioning their chemistry at times, not really seeing what drew them together. also, i did begin to get confused at the 75% mark there was tew much going on
despite my misgivings, this was a fun romp through an interesting premise, and i think tess' character was interesting; she has a lot of layers as a trauma survivor. i liked the use of pop culture (rare i know) in this book; while i still think citing real life people is a massive mistake, the podcast episodes, emails, and other social media helped add realism. i did also enjoy joni and octavia's relationship (last line of chapter 16 went crazyy). tess and joni's relationship and their journey to mending it was a good part as well.
overall i wanted more from this book since the idea is so good, but for what it's worth i had a fun time reading it! would suggest to people who like vampires, low-stakes romantasy, and fanfiction....
