Somewhere between 3.5-4...

🟢 Beautiful artwork

🟢 Wonderfully moody, atmospheric and at times creepy…

đź”´ Until the end and then it gets pretty cartoonish, which almost killed the vibe for me.

🟡 I’m still somewhat mixed on the ending..
on one hand I love me a Carrie moment, most of these villagers deserved it. But… given this is set during the witch trials and everyone knows people descended into mob mentality and hysteria, lying/accusing and killing innocents, etc… this just feels like it proves the villagers right? 🤷🏻‍♀️
Same thing with Samson’s nature.
I mean I guess he and Abitha are just playing into the villagers’ fears, but I dunno it doesn’t really sit well with me that Abitha just identifies Samson as the devil, even telling people “hey go warn others that the Devil is here!” when in actuality he’s a forest spirit?
I’ll see how that marinates over time, but overall I still really liked this book.

⚪️ Lots of people complaining about Abitha being a Not-Like-Other-Girls girl and yeah while that’s a tired trope, it’s not nearly as egregious as in other books (I’m looking at you Sarah J. Maas).
slow-paced

🔴 Even though it says in the summary, I didn’t realize this was basically a transcript for a seminar which made it feel very slow and inaccessible. In fairness, could also be a case where my brain just didn’t want to take it in right now so I’ll try it again in the future
fast-paced

🟢 Good for beginners. Writing/journal practice throughout is nice
🟡 Not bad, but nothing new here.
🔴 A lot of the book turned out to be tarot meanings, but you can find those literally everywhere, don’t need another book on that. Not what I was expecting from this, there’s very little actual practice and workings
