I originally wanted to read this book bc a reoccurring nightmare I had as a child was being chased/having to hide in an amusement park. I thought this was going to be SO tense and scare me but it was more of a mystery/thriller than a dark horror. I really liked it, but it stopped being tense about halfway through and then became a race to the finish line type of story. I wish more of the story was built in the hiding and the terror of being hunted instead of the why (maybe if it was longer?)

It was a fun story but it definitely felt very YA. Nothing challenging and emotions felt heightened or downplayed in specific ways that made it hard to care about/relate to as an adult. Kinda cheesy but overall a fun read. The ending fell pretty flat but maybe this can be a fun series?

The book moved so quickly that I didn’t have any time to develop an attachment to any characters. Everything seemed so happy so fast that it felt like I was missing parts. I think the premise sounds amazing and I’ll read the sequel if one comes, but overall I was a bit let down bc of the pacing
