I actually really enjoyed this! It’s not a particularly scary horror book, but it has an excellent plot, and it was a VERY intelligent book. It’s got just enough science, just enough folklore, just enough truth in it to make you really feel like this is something that could happen. A really fun read, even if not very scary!

This book is a 5 star read until literally the last… 20 pages? Which is just really typical for Nick Cutter, unfortunately. I LOVE his plots and I LOVE his books and they’re nauseating and gut wrenching, and then the last 20 pages rolls around and totally ruins it. The plot gets lost by whatever weird crock shit he’s come up with, overexplaining things to the point where they’re no longer scary, and the ending will just leave you unsatisfied. I am just not ever impressed with how his books end — he spoon feeds you the answer instead of just leaving you with dread.

For a biography, this was IMMENSELY fascinating. I actually really enjoyed this, cover to cover, and it was very informative, from a source who is trustworthy.

I actually really enjoyed this? It’s entirely outside of my usually high fantasy or horror genres — this whole dark academia thriller thing left me a little skeptical at first. One thing that’s important to note: all of the characters are completely fucking insufferable. They are all absolutely miserable human beings. If you like books for characters you’ll love, this is probably not the book for you. They are incredibly complex, and the plot is AMAZING, but likable characters they are not. I highly recommend this book if you’re stepping into the dark academia genre for the first time — it was a wild ride.

I don’t think I would rate this book as high if it weren’t for the fact that Russian is my literal major area of study, to include the Russian Revolution and Stalin’s impact. However, the impact of this novel on democratic societies cannot be overstated. It was amazingly well written, and really does boil down to its bare essential the dictatorial and suppressive regime of the USSR.

I actually really, really enjoyed this book. It’s not at all what I expected, but I think that it’s everything that I needed out of this book. It was an interesting and very very real take on America, I think, which is pretty amazing from an English author. The characters were nuanced and felt authentic, and it has a meandering storyline, but one that unfolds in front of you and makes you realize that every word was intentional. This was my first Gaiman book, and I definitely plan on reading more.

I really enjoyed this book. I love Stephen Graham Jones’s writing, and this book did NOT disappoint. It was beautifully written, and an amazing story about grief, social problems, and the cyclical nature of life.

This is EASILY the best YA book I’ve read in probably 2 years? Amazingly nuanced, a great commentary on religious trauma, and incredibly diverse. The plot was intriguing, the characters were lovable, and I enjoyed the twists and turns. Overall an amazing read for the YA horror genre!

I REALLY enjoyed this book. It was such an excellent foray into the manipulation and objectification of women in the Greek classics, and it was told absolutely beautifully.

I loved this book, and the only reason it’s not getting an automatic five stars from me is that it was a LITTLE bit slow in some places. But seriously, this might be the best werewolf-centric novel I’ve ever read. When I tell you the ending hit me like a gut punch? And I cried over the last 2 paragraphs? I mean it. Absolutely incredible, and I will be reading more from this author.
