I saw its title in NPR's Top 100 Story Hour books for younger kids.
This is one of the most heartwrenching book I read in 2020 (together with "The Glass Castle" and "Shadow of the Wind").
It's about Mia and her family in a foreign place for the first time, away from their country of origin.
Relatable for Overseas Filipino Workers who left home in the hopes of finding greener pastures somewhere else.
I invested every ounce of emotions in this book.

A friend in Slowly app mentioned this book.
Until the end, I keep on wondering what's the point of this story.
It's like spending hours trying to figure out how you got involved in a mess.
There's more to this story, but I don't want to waste my time in slow-paced books.

2020 PopSugar Reading Challenge: a Western

Okay, so I found this book because of Ender's Game.
I read EG in 2012 and was waiting for the movie to come out. I looked for other movies by Hailee Steinfeld who was cast as Petra. At last, I now have a reason to read this book.

I don't usually read Western novels, but I binged watched some movies with my father.
This is one of those stories with strong female characters.

Catchy title. One of my oldest TBR books.
Thankfully, 2020 PopSugar Reading Challenge has a prompt about a book club.
I find it touching, inspiring and humorous.
Hope the movie won't disappoint.

I'm not going to pretend that I enjoyed reading this book just because it's a classic.
Too dense for ESL like me.
Better if I read it for a book report; I can manage to make longer and more thorough review of this.

It's my only pick for 2020 PopSugar Reading Challenge: a medical thriller
I enjoyed reading it but it took me a week to finish.
Will definitely recommend for researchers of cancer or HeLa cells.

As a non-native English speaker, I find the language very challenging to read.
I'd have given up if I didn't use the text-to-speech feature on my ebook reader.

I avoided poems like plague, and now I'm not sure if this book supports my whims.
I don't know how to rate this.

I enjoyed reading the entire story.
By now, I already know the writing style of Green and Levithan.
I noticed that the latter is prone to write about sulky characters who brood over being left behind, brokenhearted or just depressed.
Green is prone to write about friends and sidekicks.
The ending was sappy and also inspiring.
5 was my first intended rating but I lowered it to 4 because I'm not confident enough to recommend it to anyone. It has some BUTs....

I picked it for 2020 PopSugar Reading Challenge: "with upside down in the cover" or "involves social media: Facebook"

It's recommended by NPR as their top 100 picks for laugh out loud experience.
I don't get Fisher's humor and I'm not going to credit her fame for the "success" of this book.
Glad it's a fast read, though.
Still willing to read some of her books, the less humorous ones.
