dark funny tense fast-paced

This book was a nice palate cleanser after some of the heavy books I've been reading. It's gory and really, really funny. The blowup doll scene was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read (and I mean that in a good way). 3.5 stars, rounded up.

This book is a wild ride! Mark Towse said that he left the synopsis intentionally vague, and I agree that going in almost blind is the best way to read it. It definitely did not go where I thought it would, and I appreciate that about it. Do yourself a favor - read the book, and ask yourself what price you'd pay for the night of your life.

Whew, where to start with this one? Being quite familiar with Gage Greenwood's previous novels, I know he can genre-bend with the best of them. However, my only experience with his straight horror are short stories. I knew Bunker Dogs was going to be good. I just wasn't prepared for how good.
Poor Cassie has a lot going on, even more than she knows. More than vampires, more than the end of the world. This book is action-packed, claustrophobic, wise, and beautiful as hell. It even made me squeamish. I loved every minute of it.

I really enjoyed this novella about a group of friends in 1986. The sights and sounds of the 80s are super nostalgic and the characters are excellent. I was excited to see that there might be another book - I definitely want to read it and feel there's room for more story. 4.25 stars

This book was just okay. I didn't love it, didn't hate it, finished it. The way it was written just wasn't my thing, but it does contain some pretty unsettling imagery.

4.5 stars, rounded up. I'm always on the lookout for really awesome Satanic Panic books, so Orphans of Wonderland seemed right up my alley. I count it among the best I've read. It's hard to say too much about it without giving everything away, but the end surprised me in the best way. I love a great ending like this one.

This is such a good demon novel! I also love a good police procedural and The Laughing Policeman is a nice mashup of the two genres. I'm very much looking forward to reading the sequel.

If Celebrity Big Brother, Saw, and an escape room had a baby, it would be Slashtag. This book is so good that I actually put aside the other two books I'm reading to finish it. That hasn't happened in quite awhile.
The action is almost non-stop, the dialogue is clever (as is the satire), and I absolutely could not put it down. It's probably too much to hope for a spinoff or sequel, but I would absolutely read it. A mini-series or movie would be awesome too.
I read The Island Mother by John Cohn earlier this year and enjoyed it as well. Cohn is definitely on my radar, and I look forward to reading more titles by him. Strong 5 stars.

Small but mighty, this novella packs quite a punch in less than 100 pages. I devoured it in one sitting, fascinated with this strange future in which people drink corpse juice for health. I found the ending extremely satisfying. The world building is great for such a slim volume, and I would love to read more stories set in the same world.
