This is such a cute premise, but it's not keeping my interest.

One lone daddy Golem tries to find the humans again to take care of little Somali, a human child he found. This Golem has no human features about him, physically or emotionally-or so, he thinks. As he cares for the girl, his emotions expand as well.

I really enjoyed the narrative of how you can feel behind learning a language, especially one from your culture and that the majority of your family speaks.

Santi's insecurity and nervousness with Spanish (or more so his "gringo" accent) will be so relatable to those learning a second language or feeling left out on something people think they should know.

I also LOVE that the story didn't gaslight Santi.
the grandmother acknowledged how her comments in jest really hurt him. another story may have downplayed this, but the author gets it. that would truly hurt someone, kid or not.
The narrative understands his feelings and acknowledges when he was wrong as well.

Toxic masculinity/anger issues meet parental expectations meets werewolves?

The artwork is very angular and quirky, and everyone is big-chinned.

It’s nice to see an authority figure, Damien, who cares about his student. Cam’s father’s influence runs their small town, and this man just runs up and through the local high school all day with his lackeys. Like, sir, do you work?

But there’s some suspension of belief. NO ONE seems to notice or comment whenever the characters grow monstrous features. Maybe it’s undetectable to the unpracticed eye, but I just wanted this to be addressed once in-story.

I’m assuming there was a reason that Cam looks nothing like his father and everything like the coach. Where is Maury? This is never commented on, either. An inside joke for the artist, perhaps?

Also, every time the dad says Banter legacy is a drinking game if your liver can handle it.

Overall, I wasn’t against the story and saw the merit, but I understand the art style may be a barrier of entry for some.

The artwork for this series works so well.

As usual, Jessica is the worst.

Comfy meets eldritch. I’m sure this is a part of some ‘core aesthetic, nature-core? But I’m not aware of which one. Here, have a cup of tea before we fight the supernatural.

This will really appeal to those who loved Howl’s Moving Castle (movie). I generally try not to make comparisons, but I make this one lovingly. It has a similar vibe but its own uniqueness. I enjoyed the exploration of Polish folktales. The wood god was eerie and fun. The book shined with the magical house, its secrets, and the spooky woods. I also like the strained relationship between Liska and her mother, who appears hard as nails.

There are some grotesque descriptions, especially of blood and eldritch things, but the overall tone is light. The romance was nice and muted (or not overpowering). I don’t get what appealed Leszy to Liska besides her determination. Maybe I needed to see more on his part to really believe the connection.
when, after all the events, we learn Liska had only been with Leszy for 4 months, I was flabbergasted. Closer to one year would have made me think they had time to connect and not be a mere infatuation. You’d think a semi-mortal who has lived 100s of years would take a long time to fall for someone, but maybe he falls hard despite himself.

Overall, anything introduced in the story has a purpose and is neatly resolved. Liska I felt, seemed to fluctuate at whim from shy and quiet to mouthy and headstrong. The fox nickname was cute, and I enjoyed learning more about the mystery of the house.

This leans more into a chapter book/Diary of a Wimpy Kid space than a graphic novel, but it's good all the same. One of the lessons Gabby learns is to be slow to accuse other people. There is also some aquatic environmental messaging.

Perfect for elementary school children!
