I love the artwork! Fong’s work really shines during the fight scenes. The premise is your standard shounen ‘mon game/show formula with a missing parent + adorable mascot character + the monster of the week or catchable monsters though this does get dark with a villain that’s not afraid to kill.

This introductory volume also raises an interesting question about the digital ghosts: are they terrorizing others or just fighting to protect themselves from thrill seekers? Not bad overall! I would read another volume.

The middle-school drama was ripe with this one haha! Also, I enjoyed the spotlight on positive self-affirmations and learning how to listen to others' ideas (even if they're not particularly good). This series is still so much fun.

Really enjoyed it! So happy teens, especially young girls, have a book like this.

The Why-Why's Gone Bye-Bye

DID NOT FINISH: 24%

Points for being wacky and quirky, but I do not mesh with the humor. The plot is both slow-moving and fast-paced at the same time. It’s a terribly long stream of ridiculous consciousness that never goes anywhere which is its appeal but not for me. Of course, I acknowledge I’m an adult and that kids may think differently.

I love the character designs (they all pass the silhouette test), the artwork, and the humor. We even get a new charming but cheesy mouse character, Traps. I want to read more.

Cute for what it is, but it’s not keeping my interest.
informative fast-paced

Fairly standard. Minimum instruction. Good selection of the most common poses you would need for a manga, but the figures themselves look very lifeless and flat.
