Good. The mind of Butler was whoo!

I was fully immersed in the story and watching Akin’s journey of something not quite human or alien. But this was very slow-moving and long-winded, so I found myself getting fatigued. I don’t think I’ll finish this trilogy, at least no time soon, but it’s not bad at all.

The humans here are so distinctly human that they’re frustrating.

SN: I cannot get over once Akin reaches puberty, how down bad he was for those sea anemone-looking thangs lol
hopeful informative slow-paced

I’ve never been on the recent Jada hate train. I think memoirs are for airing it all out, the good and the bad.

“I have to point out, when a man, any man, commits a displeasing act, how bizarre it is that a woman can be fully to blame. How is it that a woman can be so irrelevant and culpable at the same time? It’s absolutely mind-boggling and quite a fascinating riddle.”

Here, we learn about her Baltimore upbringing, eclectic-ness, parenting style, abandonment issues, spirituality drawn from multiple religions, a fateful night with ayahuasca, and, of course, the men in her life. This book truly centers on Jada, letting her voice be heard.

The focus on spirituality is constant and intense, and we see the trials, errors, and setbacks it has taken to get Jada to this point of contentment.

i think the prenup is the only reason they haven't divorced. they have shown they can be amicable with each other without being romantically tied. why stay married in a miserable marriage? they have a great love for each other but don't seem compatible

Chaotic. The narrative voice is stellar.

Not truly a graphic novel more Diary of a Wimpy Kidish/mixed media-ish

Teen drama with an emphasis on healthy communication, empathy, anger issues, sexuality, and being a bystander to bullying.

Ultimately, a little dull but had some much-appreciated depth. I enjoyed the non-toxic love between Alix and Erza and the parent dynamics. The characters here have strong feelings, but they express them and apologize when wrong. Refreshing!

SN: everyone in this story has got a chin, baby. Ones that could cut steel.

erza seems pansexual as of now

also, i love that alix didn't have to give up hockey. it's realistic that Lindsay didn't magically Disney change or that the other girls rallied around her. the coach gaslighted and refused to care too. this shows that sometimes (admittedly it's not always an option) there are other options than staying in an abusive environment. going to play on a nother team was a great idea!

Really good. I think this story will especially resonate with immigrant and 2nd generation children. There's so much subtext weaved in subtly/masterfully about xenophobia and ignorance.

The twins are at an awkward growing stage. Zeeshan wants to desperately fit in. He feels othered and like he's always being called to prove his Americanness. His parents also don't seem to value his hobbies as much as Zara's from his perspective. Zara is more confident in herself and in belonging but doesn't feel like she receives any protection or understanding from her brother. She's ambitious, passionate, and bright-eyed about animal activism and her parent's support.

As a mild criticism, I don't think all of Zeeshan's arc got resolved. But the ending has a sort of air that maybe eventually he'll find his sort of people and that his parents do support him as well.

SN: Hotel concierge was beautiful, but some suspension of belief is needed. Those ppl (usually) don't care on that level of service lol

"I think who we pretend to be says a lot about who we are."

I’ll always like Jo and Laurie together, but this is a queer spin for a new generation. Cute artwork and a simple plot. It’s a loose interpretation, so it doesn’t follow everything closely but manages to keep the same spirit.

Sn: sorry but the name Marmee was dumb. I get maybe one March girl saying it, but no way would the older ones join in.

It's paint by numbers (meaning it does nothing to differentiate this typical story of a kid looking up to the wrong type of adult), but it's cute.

i don't remember them outright stating what happened to andy's dad. he either had substance abuse or mental health issues
