I'm just not invested in this story. I feel like the characters keep flip-flopping. One moment Rook is intimidating next he's innocent as a child then he's murderous then he's wanting Isobel's validation. Isobel will be afraid of him then talk to him like he's a friend. It all just felt too fast.
At first, the cover art and focus on ravens intrigued me. The enchantment business was great as well. Essentially, it's a mixture between deals with the devil and magic wishes with a genie. You must be perfectly clear with what you want. I liked the goat-siblings and the main character who is a painter as well. However, after Isobel finished the painting, the story quickly went in a direction I didn't care for.
I might continue this one day, but, for now, I'm stopping here. Still, I want to read Sorcery of Thorns from this same author.
I don't know if I'm right, but I'm guessing Rook loved a human girl before and she died of old age.

No rating because it wouldn't be fair. I wasn't very interested in their journey, and I thought Tyler was being a bit unreasonable (but thankfully not a brat). There are some fun cartoony moments, but I think if I had played Minecraft, I would have enjoyed this more.
This book renewed my love for fairytales. I also enjoyed how Sunday's sibling have backstories that are references to other fairytales (Princess and the Pea, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel (blink and ya miss it), etc). The family relationship between Sunday and Trix is so heartwarming because I love when siblings get along in stories/media. Also, the austere mother, Seven Woodcutter, was easily one of the most interesting characters.
The story was fluffy and cute in the beginning. I enjoyed the friendship among Rumbold, Erik, and Velius. They were true friends and never missed a moment to roast him.Apparently, Rumbold had a blind spot or blackout of a year where he started wilding and these guys still stuck by him no matter what atrocities he had probably done Yes, instalove is most definitely present, but this is a fairytale so it's expected. I hated when the focus ultimately shifted from Sunday and her lover.
Toward the middle (after the transformation and godmothers are revealed), the story jumped the shark for fairytale standards. There were just too many plot points. It got to be too much and too bloody with the magic, estranged sisters, Rumbold's crusty daddy, the King, and etc.
Best characters: Velius, Seven Woodcutter, Trix
2.5

Another adorable entry in this series. I enjoy the relationship between Takeo's parents, and I like how strong Takeo's mother is and how she's never portrayed as ugly or overly aggressive. Takeo and his mother are very selfless almost to the point they ignore themselves. This series has been very heartwarming and drama-free thus far.
Also, I think this volume teased a bit about the characters' futures. Is Takeo going to become a doctor? Yamato seems like she will become a teacher/daycare worker.

Ehh, less cute than previous volumes with the focus on a new character in love with Suna. She teeters on the stalker edge, but I like how the resolution of their relationship was handled.
Another cute volume. Takeo's having impure thoughts about Yamato (of course, this is shoujo's, so it like "hand-holding" and "pecking/light kiss" is so immoral! Egad, Batman!). A new best friend rival(?) arrives and begins to steal Suna away. Fortunately real recognizes real, so I'm sure all will be rectified next volume.
I can see why this series can potentially get boring for some, but the wholesome, sweet tone is still great to me.
