picked up this novel because I’m joining a book club at @bookcellarchicago and this was their read of the month!
That said, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. This is the kind of historical fiction I can get behind, San Francisco in the 50s + 60’s with a focus on the political turmoil of the red scare and the unrest with gay persecution as well.
The main character is a young gay, with little understanding of what’s happening around her- as an adult reading this book I found it interesting the ways in which the world was explained to her, from her friends and family.
I will absolutely be reading more from this author!!

I really enjoyed this books balance of humor with information. I learned a LOT. I will say TW: animal testing big time. This part was uncomfortable to read, whole chapters on it as well.

I felt that this book was good until….. the second half. I was really waiting for the end
where he gets his revenge on Fitzgerald but like he only gave him a bullet in the shoulder??!?!?!? For all that…. Lame.
I loved the aspect of the wilderness and having to use what you can to survive but the politics and the idk relationship between all the survivalists were kind of annoying some times.

The Robber Bride

Margaret Atwood

DID NOT FINISH: 20%

I dnf’d because of the pace mostly, I had an incredibly hard time engaging with this book, which is odd because all of the other Margaret Atwood I’ve read I’ve really been been immersed in. I didn’t relate to the characters, it felt like they were letting this one woman have so much power over them and honestly i was kind of disgusted, but that wasn’t why I stopped reading.

I thought this book was fantastic. Though I would say at  points it was slow.  It took me a moment to fall into the rhythm but once I did it was game over!
I found the topics in this book really educational and relevant to other genocides happening at the hands of USA and Britain. It was informative and also a beautiful story between the mix of characters and their interpersonal relationships.
