well, damn.
to understand this story better, I read it aloud as if I was narrating an audiobook, complete with character voices (though there are only two), and I completely psyched myself out.
Way to go, Joey. Read a horror-filled short story to yourself out loud alone in your house at night. That totally won't give you chills and cause you to glance around as if
Spoiler YOUR not-so-dead sister will show up all bloodied and kill you

but yeah this story is creepy af

This would have been a five star book with important themes if I had understood it. I was very confused...perhaps because I am not used to graphic novels/manga.

Are you a feminist?
Do you like Asian history and culture?
Enjoy nonfiction and little known facts?

Then read this book! I loved this book so so much and it is definitely one of my favorite nonfictions. In the future, I want to check out other books by Jack Weatherford--I feel like his writing style is very accessible to those who don't read nonfiction often (like me!).
This book also included several legends and anecdotal stories from Mongol culture, which I found to be very, very interesting, and quite disturbing at times.

I cannot express how thankful I am for this book. Being a biracial Korean, I stand by the fact that we need more Koreans in YA fiction, especially sci-fi and fantasy (also just Asian rep in fantasy in general???). After reading Girls of Paper and Fire, I was disappointed. But after reading Gumiho, I am SO EXCITED FOR BOOK 2! The book left off on a thrilling cliffhanger and I am so stoked.
I'll be doing a full review of this on my channel, but for now, I'll say, READ THIS PEOPLE when it comes out and support debut author Kat Cho!
I will say that this is a teen romance set in an urban fantasy setting (modern day in Seoul). So if you like romance, k-dramas, or mythology, this is the story for you!:)

Love love love all the stories, a great diversity of retellings from contemporary to folktale to sci-fi.
However, DON'T listen to the audiobook like I did. The narrators were terrible, even to the point of producing words wrong (not English words, but the words in the different Asian languages).
